President Osmani represents Kosovo at the Summit for Democracy: At every step, Kosovo reflects the power and the spirit of democracy
The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, has represented the Republic of Kosovo at the Summit for Democracy, which was virtually organized today by the Republic of Korea, under the leadership of President Yoon Suk Yeol. The Summit for Democracy is an initiative of the President of the USA Joe Biden, within which Kosovo over the years has stood out among the champion countries in terms of reforms and initiatives undertaken in the direction of the continuous empowerment of democracy. In her statement, President Osmani drew attention to the existential importance of further strengthening and development of democracy, emphasizing the necessity for the unity of the democratic states in the face of rising autocracies. In this regard, President Osmani said that the commitments we have undertaken at the Summit for Democracy have guided our path, both in politics and in decision-making. In her statement, President Osmani emphasized that since the last meeting of the leaders, Kosovo has made important steps in advancing the rule of law in accordance with the approved comprehensive national strategy, one of the most important results in the framework of our Summit for Democracy commitments. ” We have also demonstrated our commitment to international standards and cooperation by joining the Declaration against Arbitrary Detention in state to state relations, by signing the Declaration of Principles to combat transnational repression alongside six other democratic countries last October, and by working closely with the United States towards advancing joint efforts to countering foreign state information manipulation” said President Osmani. President Osmani also spoke about the ongoing efforts to fight gender-based violence, to empower women economically and to strengthen their role in public and political institutions, stressing that gender equality and women’s empowerment have been at the fundament of all our commitments. On the eve of the second edition of the International Forum for Women, Peace and Security, which will be held in April in Pristina, President Osmani stated that one of the biggest achievements this year is the establishment of the first Regional Centre of Excellence on Women, Peace and Security in the Western Balkans, in partnership with the US Secretary of State’s Office, in line with the US Women, Peace and Security Strategy 2023, as well as with the National Action Plan.

Esteemed colleagues, dear representatives of the institutions of South Korea. Democracy cannot be taken for granted. Democracy isn’t a given. It is a responsibility, a responsibility to protect, to uplift, to defend, to support, but most importantly, a responsibility to act. Three years ago, through the initiative of President Biden, we joined the democratic world in conveying a message of unity. But most importantly, a message about the necessity of democracy sticking together in the face of rising autocracies. Ever since, the commitments we made within the framework of the Summit for Democracy have guided our path in policy and decision-making alike. In every era, democracy has been tested by the forces of tyranny and oppression and by those who seek to undermine its transformative power. Yet, it endures. It becomes more resilient and robust because at its core, democracy is about the spirit of the people. It’s about our dreams and aspirations. Since we last met, Kosovo has made significant strides in advancing the rule of law in line with the adopted comprehensive national strategy, one of the most significant deliverables as part of our Summit for Democracy commitments. We have also demonstrated our commitment to international standards and cooperation by joining the Declaration against Arbitrary Detention in state to state relations, by signing the Declaration of Principles to combat transnational repression alongside six other democratic countries last October, and by working closely with the United States towards advancing joint efforts to countering foreign state information manipulation. With gender equality and women empowerment standing at the core of all of our commitments, we have worked across all institutions and with civil society to combat gender-based violence, to empower women economically, and to strengthen their role in public and political institutions. As I speak, we are preparing to host the second edition of the International Forum on Women, Peace and Security in Prishtina, this April. In this edition, not only will we focus on partnerships and dialog to advance sustainable peace through securing higher women representation at all levels of decision-making, but we are also proud to announce the establishment of the first Regional Center of Excellence on Women, Peace and Security in the Western Balkans, in partnership with the Office of the U.S. Secretary of State and in line with the US 2023 WPS and National Action Plan. These measures collectively represent a robust approach to reinforcing the rule of law, showcasing Kosovo’s dedication to legal reform, transparency and the protection and advancement of human rights. In this journey, engaging the next generation in democratic processes is existential. I am convinced that through their ever-evolving digital fluency, we have exceptional opportunities to innovate democracy. The actions of our youth, their passion and the commitment to democracy can inspire a new era of progress and prosperity. This because, where there is consistency, persistence, unity and ambition, democracy always wins. Thank you.

President Osmani received the President of the International Paralympic Committee, Andrew Parsons
The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani received today the President of the International Paralympic Committee Andrew Parsons, accompanied by the President of the Kosovo Paralympic Committee Njomza Emini. Kosovo will be represented for the first time at the “Paris 2024” Paralympic Games, which President Osmani praised as a historic moment, hoping for a worthy representation of our athletes at these international competitions. President Osmani thanked President Parsons for his support to date and added the need for continued cooperation in order to create the best possible conditions for para-athletes. President Parsons officially invited President Osmani to be present at the opening ceremony of the “Paris 2024” Paralympic Games on August 28th.

The First Gentleman, Prindon Sadriu, met on Tuesday in Tirana with his counterpart from Albania, Mrs. Armanda Begaj. In his capacity as a diplomat, the First Gentleman is in Tirana to represent the Republic of Kosovo at the forthcoming meeting of the Adriatic Charter (A5). At the same time, Mr. Sadriu is leading the security consultations at the level of the foreign and defense ministries. The two counterparts discussed matters of mutual interest, as well as the further strengthening of interstate and fraternal relations. During the meeting, discussions focused on bilateral relations. Special focus was given to cooperation and synergy in various fields, as well as the support they provide in the exercise of constitutional functions to the heads of both states. Mr. Sadriu informed Ms. Begaj of the work and engagements related to the organization of the second edition of the Women, Peace and Security Forum (WPS). The two interlocutors also discussed their international agendas, both individual ones and those within the framework of official visits by heads of state. In addition, attention was paid to regional and global challenges, with emphasis on the importance of solidarity and cooperation in addressing common threats to regional peace and security. The First Gentleman expressed his readiness for the next meeting in Pristina, during the WPS proceedings, affirming his steadfast commitment to the continuation of cooperation with the First Lady of Albania and her team. Mr. Sadriu stated that he is looking forward to the further advancement of joint objectives.
President Osmani visited the municipality of Lipjan
Lipjan, March 18th 2024 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani visited the municipality of Lipjan today, during which she carried out a number of activities. Initially, President Osmani was received by the Mayor of Lipjan, Imri Ahmeti. President Osmani and Mayor Ahmeti also met the children in the kindergarten, the young men and women of this municipality, the businesses as well as the non-majority communities living in the municipality of Lipjan. Meanwhile, in the statement to the media, President Osmani said that with Lipjan she is continuing with her visits to the municipalities of Kosovo. “I am pleased to be received today by the mayor Imri Ahmeti, one of the mayors of whom I have known for more than 20 years and have cooperated with in different capacities. Hence from his work to date, I am convinced that the citizens of Lipjan have something to be proud of, and that the other projects, which Mayor Ahmeti informed me about today, will continue and will be completed successfully, “ said President Osmani. The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, commemorated the 25th anniversary of the massacre at the Mitrovica Green Market. 25 years ago, on March 13 1999, 7 innocent civilians aged 5-65, were cruelly killed at the Mitrovica Green Market by the grenades of the forces of the Milosevic’s genocidal regime. In this macabre act, 128 people were injured, including children, women, elderly and youngsters. This massacre is one of the most authentic testimonies of the brutality of a criminal regime, which aimed to exterminate Albanians. Today, we honor the memory of those killed that day, while our commitment to justice remains constant. May the memory of those killed at the Mitrovica Green Market remain eternal!

President Osmani received in a farewell meeting the non-resident ambassador of Bangladesh Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan
The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani received today in a farewell meeting the non-resident ambassador of Bangladesh Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, whom she thanked for his engagements during his tenure. President Osmani expressed her heartfelt gratitude for Bangladesh’s steadfast commitment to the expansion of bilateral relations with Kosovo and continuous support over the years. In this line, President Osmani presented the need for continued support by Bangladesh in strengthening Kosovo’s position in the international arena. The excellent opportunities for the further promotion of economic and trade relations with special emphasis on the textile industry, which is quite developed in Bangladesh, were also discussed at the meeting. In this context, the possibilities for the organisation of a joint economic forum was also discussed, as an excellent opportunity for businesses from both countries to explore the perspectives of cooperation in the future. President Osmani informed Ambassador Bhuiyan on the second edition of the Forum for Women, Peace and Security which will be held on April 15-16 this year and which is a good opportunity for cooperation and further dialogue.
