Albulena Haxhiu is the Acting President of the Republic of Kosova and the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosova. In these roles, she represents two of the country’s highest institutions and carries out her duties in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Kosova. Her public work has focused on democratic institutions, the rule of law, accountability, and the public representation of citizens.

She completed her undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Law of the University of Prishtina and continued her master’s studies at the South East European University, with a professional focus on constitutional, legislative, and rule of law issues.

Haxhiu began her political engagement at an early age. She is a senior figure of the VETËVENDOSJE! Movement, from whose ranks she was first elected to the Assembly of Kosova in 2010, at the age of 23. Since then, she has been elected to the Assembly of Kosova seven times, becoming one of the most consistent female figures in Kosova’s parliamentary life and has ranked among the most voted women in the country. In both the 9 February and 28 December 2025 parliamentary elections, she was ranked as the most voted woman in the Republic of Kosova.

During her parliamentary work, she chaired key bodies dealing with legislation, mandates, immunity, and rules of procedure. Her work in the Assembly has focused on strengthening the rule of law, improving institutional accountability, advancing gender equality, and protecting the rights of women and girls.

In 2020, she was appointed Minister of Justice in the Kurti I Government and continued to serve in this position in the Kurti II Government until 25 August 2025. During her mandate, she led important reforms in the justice system, including anti-corruption legislation, mechanisms for the confiscation of unjustified assets, stronger legal protection for women and girls, and constitutional amendments related to the vetting process at the highest levels of the justice system.

On 26 August 2025, she was elected First Deputy Speaker of the Assembly. After the parliamentary elections of December 2025, she was elected Speaker of the Assembly on 11 February 2026.

Since 4 April 2026, she has served as Acting President of the Republic of Kosova, in accordance with the Constitution.

Following the completion of the mandate of the previous President, she began exercising the duties of President of the Republic of Kosova on 4 April 2026, in accordance with the Constitution.

Albulena Haxhiu was born on 11 May 1987 in Prishtina. She is married and the mother of three children. She lives in Prishtina with her family.
