President Osmani: The blood of the fallen of Likoshan and Qirez became a call for resistance, dignity and freedom

On February 28, 1998, the genocidal regime of Serbia committed one of the gravest acts of state terror in Kosovo, brutally killing 24 residents of Likoshan and Qirez, of whom 20 civilians who were martyred and 4 KLA fighters who fell heroically in defence of the civilian population. This was a brutal attempt to break the spirit of freedom that was growing in Drenica and throughout Kosovo. The blood of the fallen of Likoshan and Qirez became a call for resistance, dignity and freedom. They became part of the foundation on which our journey towards liberation and state-building was built. The memory of the martyrs of Likoshan and Qirez is a testament to justice and to preserving freedom at all costs. Eternal glory to the fallen of Likoshan and Qirez!

President Osmani attended the change of command ceremony at Camp Bondsteel

Madam President reiterated the importance of the US military presence and that of its allies within NATO as a key factor for stability, and stressed that Kosovo’s membership in NATO remains a strategic objective for long-term peace. On this occasion, President Osmani once again underlined the importance of continuing the bilateral strategic dialogue, pointing out that the partnership with the US is a vital and existential interest to the Republic of Kosovo. During the meeting, the latest political developments in the country were also discussed, with an emphasis on the importance of concluding the constitutional processes and full institutional consolidation, in the function of democratic stability, the development of the country and addressing the needs of citizens. Sauma Uribe.   On this occasion, President Osmani welcomed the Ambassador and congratulated her on her appointment, expressing her belief that the Ambassador’s mandate will contribute to the further deepening of the excellent relations between the two countries.   Madam President expressed gratitude for Costa Rica’s early and principled support to the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Kosovo, emphasizing the potential for the expansion of bilateral cooperation. She noted that Kosovo highly values friendly relations with Latin American countries and remains committed to strengthening cooperation with countries in this region in areas of mutual interest.   During the meeting, opportunities for deepening cooperation in diplomacy, economy and especially in tourism were discussed.
