The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, participated in the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Summit, held in Sofia, Bulgaria, on June 10th, 2026.
In her address, she emphasized the importance of regional cooperation, security and European integration of the Western Balkan countries, appreciating the role of SEECP as a key platform for the stability of the region. Haxhiu strongly condemned the Russian aggression against Ukraine and underlined that its consequences are affecting security throughout Europe, including South Eastern Europe.
She reaffirmed Kosovo’s resolute orientation towards the European Union and its commitment to reforms, rule of law, economic development and sustainable growth, highlighting Kosovo’s evident progress in international indices and in the European integration process.
In this context, the Acting President called for further advancement of the integration process, including obtaining candidate country status and opening negotiations for EU membership, emphasizing that the process should be meritocratic and standards-based.
“Over 90 percent of our citizens support membership in the European Union, one of the highest levels of support in the region. This progress is concrete, measurable and should be recognized. Therefore, this should lead to a decision on candidate country status, and we are ready to start work on opening membership negotiations,” stated Acting President Haxhiu.
She also emphasized the importance of regional economic integration, strategic infrastructure projects, implementation of existing agreements and equal respect for all countries in the region in regional organizations.
The Acting President Haxhiu praised the SEECP as an important mechanism for regional cooperation and reiterated Kosovo’s readiness to contribute to strengthening the stability and European perspective of the region.
