The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, participated today at the International Interparliamentary Luncheon on Capitol Hill, as the guest of honour, and gave an address at the Interparliamentary Security Forum. During the International Interparliamentary Luncheon, organized within the framework of the Annual National Prayer Meeting, President Osmani spoke about the journey of the people of Kosovo from the greatest challenges to today’s achievements, as well as the unwavering commitment to combat malignant forces and influence in Kosovo. At the International Interparliamentary Luncheon, Madam President was invited alongside the King and Queen of Burundi, the Prime Minister of Fiji, as well as numerous American congressmen, ministers and deputies from around the world. On this occasion, she had the opportunity to discuss with them the expansion of bilateral relations. Meanwhile, at the Inter-Parliamentary Security Forum, President Osmani focused on Kosovo’s strategic role in countering the malign influences of China, Russia and Iran, emphasizing the unwavering partnership with the United States of America. “American investment and engagement in Kosovo, in addition to benefiting our security and development, is also in line with the objectives of the Trump Administration. This would also prevent the spread of Russian hybrid warfare, Iran’s ideological influence and China’s economic pressure in the region. Kosovo is a steadfast ally that strengthens US influence in Europe and the Balkans,” emphasized President Osmani. According to President Osmani, Kosovo is a strategic asset for the US in confronting destabilizing influences in Europe and remains fully committed to the strategic interests of the United States. Among other things, President Osmani reiterated the importance of American investments and investments in Kosovo’s critical infrastructure, ensuring the country’s energy independence and sustainable economic development.

The meeting focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Kosovo and the United States of America in line with the objectives of President Trump’s Administration, as well as advancing cooperation in key areas such as defense and economy. During the meeting, President Osmani reaffirmed the Republic of Kosovo’s commitment to closely cooperating with the United States and deepening bilateral relations. President Osmani emphasized the importance of strengthening regional security and the need for a strong preventive stance in the face of ongoing threats from Russia, Serbia and other malign actors. In this context, President Osmani underlined the necessity of close cooperation to maintain regional stability and peace. President Osmani also spoke about the importance of Kosovo’s integration into NATO, which, in addition to strengthening security in Kosovo and the region, is ultimately in line with US strategic objectives for global peace and security. She confirmed that Kosovo has already increased its defense budget to 2% of its Gross Domestic Product and is in the process of increasing it further to meet the strategic objective of NATO membership. Furthermore, President Osmani confirmed Kosovo’s readiness to actively engage in the implementation of the Strategic Dialogue, which was offered to Kosovo earlier this year, to address common challenges and priorities in various areas. Louis Bono has been appointed by the Trump Administration as Acting Assistant Secretary of State effective January 20th, 2025.

She will on this occasion talk about the journey of the people of Kosovo from their most difficult days to today’s successes, emphasizing the unparalleled faith and resilience of our citizens. During her stay in Washington, President Osmani will also hold meetings with US congressmen and US administration officials, with a focus on strengthening the strategic partnership between Kosovo and the United States of America, as well as advancing our country’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations. The National Morning Prayer is a six-decade tradition, where each year top American officials, members of Congress, politicians and military leaders, as well as guests from many countries around the world, gather for joint prayers.

On the 25th anniversary, we commemorate the two nights of terror of February 3rd and 4th, 2000 in the northern part of Mitrovica, we honor with utmost respect the lost lives of 10 innocent citizens, elderly, women and children – who were cruelly killed by criminal gangs incited by Serbia. In this brutal attack, 24 citizens were also injured, thus evidencing the barbarity of those two nights. Another painful evidence are the 1,564 families, with a total of 11,364 members, forcibly displaced from their homes, clearly testifying to the efforts for ethnic cleansing in this part of Mitrovica by criminal groups. These days are a powerful reminder of the resistance and the struggle to remain in their homeland, but also of the need to defend the freedom achieved with blood and sacrifice. Justice for the victims and punishment of the perpetrators of these crimes remain a necessity for a lasting peace. May the memory of the civilians killed on February 3-4 be eternal!
