Statement by the President of the Republic of Kosovo

The Republic of Kosovo is built on the foundations of unbreakable friendship with the United States of America. This relationship is not only diplomatic but is an existential part of our state and national identity. To this end, the President’s engagements have been and remain unwavering and continuous, as has been repeatedly confirmed by the leadership of the United States of America, inclusive of President Trump’s recent letter to President Osmani in August 2025. Therefore, Madam President expresses her deepest regret and concern related to the decision to suspend the Strategic Dialogue, an important cooperation mechanism between Kosovo and the United States. The Strategic Dialogue was initiated by Madam President in 2021, through a proposal addressed to the President of the United States of America. This proposal by the President was reconfirmed in June 2022, via a verbal note and during the meeting with the US Secretary of State in July of the same year. Following the extraordinary engagement of the Presidency and the State Department team, this process was finalized with the final confirmation at the meeting between President Osmani and the State Department in January 2025. The issue of the alliance with the United States is a strategic issue that requires political unity and commitment from everyone in Kosovo. The citizens of Kosovo know that their freedom became a reality also with the decisive help of the United States, and that without this historic friendship, we would never have reached where we are today. The President of the Republic of Kosovo will continue to work closely with the United States in all areas of common interest: strengthening peace and stability in the region, further democratization of our country, building a Euro-Atlantic future, as well as the continued protection of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and constitutional order of the Republic of Kosovo. The security of the Republic of Kosovo is strongly linked to the support of the United States of America, and hence, everyone must take the preservation of this sacred alliance with the utmost seriousness and responsibility. The Strategic Dialogue reached in January 2025 is an extremely valuable mechanism of this cooperation. In this spirit, the Presidency of the Republic of Kosovo will make every effort with maximum engagement to ensure that this dialogue resumes as soon as possible because our partnership with the United States is not only a guarantee for the present but also the safest compass toward the future.
