President Osmani commemorates the 26th anniversary of the Rogovë in Has Massacre
On January 27, 28 and 29, 1999, forces of the Miloshevic genocidal regime carried out a brutal offensive in the villages of Rogovë in Has Goden and Bishtazh in in Gjakovë, mercilessly killing 9 innocent civilians. In this battle for freedom, 21 fighters of the Kosovo Liberation Army also fell heroically. This massacre remains an indelible wound in our national memory and a testament to the merciless violence against our people. Today and forever, we will honor the KLA fallen and martyrs, preserving their memory as a symbol of resistance and sacrifice for freedom.
President Osmani in Poland for the Auschwitz commemoration: Kosovo, built upon the painful history of war and genocide, best understands the importance of the fight against hatred
The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, participated today at the commemorative ceremony of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau in Krakow, Poland, alongside other world leaders. This is the first time that the head of state participates in this commemorative event, testifying to Kosovo’s dedication to peace and international solidarity. At the beginning of the ceremony, President Osmani was received by the Polish President Andrzej Duda. She expressed gratitude for the invitation and emphasized the importance of historical memory for the crimes committed. The memories of some survivors of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp brought shocking accounts from the horror camp with the clear message that their past should not be the future of our children. In commemoration of this day, during conversations with other leaders, President Osmani emphasized the importance of historical memory to prevent the repetition of the horrors of the past and to promote the universal values of peace, equality and humanity. President Osmani highlighted Kosovo’s horrible experience, which took part during the war and the genocide carried out by Milosevic regime, emphasizing that this experience makes Kosovo a powerful voice in the fight against hatred and discrimination. “International Holocaust Remembrance Day reminds us that we must stand together against all forms of hatred and ensure that the horrors of the past are never repeated. Kosovo, which has gone through the horrors of war and genocide committed by the Milosevic regime, understands best the importance of the fight against hatred and the commitment to a more humane and just future,” emphasized President Osmani. Madam President also emphasized the extraordinary contribution of the Albanians during the Holocaust, recalling that they opened their doors and hearts to Jews, based on the values of the Albanian Besa, an act that remains proof of the power of humanism and solidarity.

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, has departed to Poland to participate, along with other world leaders, at the commemorative ceremony of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi German concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz. During the ceremony, in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, the touching stories of two survivors of the Auschwitz camp will be shared with the participants, recalling one of the darkest chapters in human history. Auschwitz is a symbol of the Holocaust and the atrocities of World War II. In 2005, the United Nations declared January 27th International Holocaust Remembrance Day, to remember the victims and to urge the world to commit to never allowing such horrors to happen again.

The Presidency of the Republic of Kosovo congratulates and supports the nomination of the KRCT and Ms. Feride Rushiti for the Nobel Peace Prize and felicitates her and the KRCT organization, which she has led for several years. The KRCT organization has been continuously supported and encouraged by the Presidency of Kosovo, and over the years, has been among the main partners in organizing the International Forum on Women, Peace and Security and in advancing this agenda in Kosovo. This organization has not only contributed to the rehabilitation process of survivors of sexual violence during the recent war in Kosovo but has also played a key role in building policies that support the betterment of the well-being and status of this category within our society. KRCT, in addition to its contribution within Kosovo, is recognized as one of the organizations that assist survivors of sexual violence during war and conflict in various countries around the world, thus sharing Kosovo’s experience in building support mechanisms for survivors of sexual violence during war. Special gratitude also goes to the Swedish MP, Magnus Jacobsson, who submitted the proposal to the Nobel Peace Prize Nominating Committee. Additionaly, he was personally involved in events that included the topic of sexual violence during war and conflict, such as the International Forum on Women, Peace and Security.

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, received yesterday a number of the heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organizations in Kosovo who are engaged in the justice field. During this meeting, preparations for the establishment of the Presidential Commission on Transitional Justice were discussed. The initiative for the establishment of this Commission stems from the Transitional Justice Strategy of the Republic of Kosovo. President Osmani expressed gratitude for the support and commitment of those present to this process and announced that in the coming weeks, meetings will continue with other representatives of organizations representing victims, civil society and the international community, to finalize the commencement of the engagement of this commission as soon as possible.

Honourable Prime Minister Kurti, Honourable Minister Sveçla, Honourable Director Hoxha, Honourable Kosovo Police management staff and Public Security academic staff Dear Kosovo Police officials, Dear cadets of the 61st generation Dear families of cadets, Honourable participants, The pride today is extraordinary, because 462 more guardians are joining our homeland, 462 more boys and girls who will defend our homeland. Order and security are the foundation of a successful society. Meanwhile, these boys and girls who look after our order and security are the shield of peace and freedom for which our people have sacrificed for centuries. This best defines the role of the Kosovo Police, an institution that is not only an enforcer of the law, but is a protector and guarantor of freedom of each citizen of the Republic of Kosovo, without distinction. This is an extraordinary moment for the girls and boys who from today become part of one of the most important, most respected and most trusted institutions of our Republic. The Police is the first pillar of order and the guarantor of the freedom and security of each citizen, regardless of their affiliation. With the graduation of the 61st generation, this institution is strengthened even more, being enriched with a new generation, which brings more energy, dedication and a deep sense of responsibility towards the homeland. With 462 new police officers, among whom are representatives of non-majority communities, as well as 56 girls and women, representation in the Police is being strengthened as a key value for an equal and inclusive society. I mentioned that there are 56 girls and women in this group, but let me say that we need even more girls and women in our Police force. There remains a constant need to empower them in the function of public safety of all our citizens. The Kosovo Police is a symbol of security, professionalism and trust of citizens. Our Police are for us every day and at every hour of the day and night, on holidays and on the most difficult days. They are on duty when we celebrate and when we rest. They look after our safety when we enjoy our daily lives, but also in our most difficult situations. Their sacrifice and dedication are unparalleled and for this reason our respect and gratitude for them should be maximal. The Police are the foundation of the constitutional order and one of the main pillars of our state. Every day, they protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kosovo, fulfilling a duty that stems from the Constitution and is vital for the existence of our state. Some of our police officers are already heroes, because they have fallen in the line of duty with courage and dignity to protect the sovereignty and territory of the Republic of Kosovo. They are an example of bravery and dedication to a mission that goes beyond duty, best embodying the ideal of public service. Today, we bow to the heroism of the hero of Kosovo, Afrim Bunjaku. We also bow to the heroism of Enver Zymberi. We bow to the heroism of all police officers who fell in the line of duty to protect our dear homeland. Gratitude and respect for the Kosovo Police are not only a moral duty, but also a tribute to their decisive role in protecting our country and its future. Order, peace and security are not taken for granted. They require continuous commitment to maintain them. In a turbulent world filled with unpredictable challenges, it is our common duty to be vigilant and ready at all times to guard our homeland. Dear police officers; you have undergone months of intensive training, challenging yourself not only physically but also emotionally. On the journey you are embarking on today, you will face great challenges. But I strongly believe that you are prepared to be an example of integrity and professionalism. Kosovo today is a country that aspires to Euro-Atlantic integration, and the Kosovo Police is one of the brightest examples of our commitment to building institutions that reflect the highest international standards. You are the ones who will hold this standard high and represent our country with pride. On this day, a heartfelt thank you also goes to your families. For those who have stood by you on this journey, above all, for your parents, but also to all family members! Respect for the families who have supported you and who are still here today, sharing this moment of pride with you and with all of us! Our thanks also go to all those who worked on your training, to the instructors and leaders who prepared you for your new mission. The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, met today with the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Kosovo, Ms. Anu Prattipati. During the meeting, President Osmani and Ms. Prattipati discussed recent developments in the country, including the commitment of Kosovo’s institutions to maintaining stability and advancing democratic reforms. The participation of the Kosovo presidential delegation in the inaugural activities of the newly elected U.S. President, Donald Trump, was discussed during the meeting as well. On this occasion, President Osmani once again confirmed Kosovo’s commitment and readiness to continue deepening the partnership with the new U.S. administration, based on shared values and strategic interests.

With deep sorrow, we learned the news of the passing of Ukrainian journalist Olha Pridako, who had lived in Pristina for the last two years. Olha was a courageous voice of journalism and a testament to strength and resilience in difficult circumstances. Her presence in Kosovo, together with her son Yaroslav, was an example of the human spirit and the value of freedom, which binds our nations. In these difficult moments for the family, I offer my most sincere condolences to her family, especially to her son Yaroslav, her colleagues in Prishtina, and all those who knew her! The memory of Olha will always remain in our minds and hearts!
Presidential delegation meets with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Alexander Kasanof
Yesterday, during their visit to Washington D.C., the President’s Chief of Staff Learta Hollaj and the Foreign Policy Advisor Rejhan Vuniqi, met with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Alexander Kasanof. During the meeting, the latest developments in bilateral relations were discussed, with particular emphasis on the Kosovo-US Strategic Dialogue, which was reached at Madam President’s initiative. The areas that this strategic dialogue will cover, the expectations from this process, and other issues of common interest were also discussed. Also, this being the first working day of the new administration led by President Trump, the Presidency confirmed its full commitment to the continuous expansion of relations and cooperation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining and advancing security and strengthening and international affirmation of the Republic of Kosovo. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Kasanof, emphasized the importance of continuing the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue process, while the Presidency reiterated the need for the dialogue to focus on mutual recognition.
