President of Kosovo received at a meeting Prime Minister Thaçi

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, received today at a meeting the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi, who informed her about the proceedings of the meeting held in Brussels as part of the dialogue process on the normalisation of relations between the Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Serbia, two neighbouring, sovereign and independent states.

Prime Minister emphasized that the dialogue process, lead by the European Union and strongly supported by the United States of America, has already produced practical results in achievement of a number of agreements that ease the lives and work of the citizens of both countries and that contribute towards peace and stability in the region and beyond.

Prime Minister Thaçi stated that talks are being held on the abolition of all parallel and illegal structures that were until now financed and organised by the state of Serbia in certain municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo, which in turn will enable the dispersion of the authority and powers of rule of law and order and application of the constitutionality and legislation in the whole territory of the Republic of Kosovo and create conditions in order to, in four northern municipalities, elections for the municipal assemblies and mayors are held, and thus enable the citizens to, through a free and just process, elect their legal and legitimate government representatives.

Prime Minister Thaçi said that the Association of Municipalities with Serbian ethnic majority will be created for the whole territory of the Republic of Kosovo, as a legal and constitutional right as well as an obligation that stems from the Marti Ahtisaari’s Package, which is in function of the better cooperation and coordination between municipalities in order to realize their common interests for the wellbeing and service to the citizens. Prime Minister also stated that at the next meeting, to be held in Brussels on March 20th, both parties will agree the time limits for the implementation of these agreements.

President Jahjaga gave her full support to the dialogue process as the only way towards solutions to all relevant issues as well as a contribution towards peace, stability, cooperation and understanding between individuals, nations and states. Madam President emphasized that all solutions will be in full agreement of all parties as well as in accordance with the laws and constitution, as an example of best European practices. All parties will result as winners in this process as all solutions will be sustainable and long term ones, which will in turn help our Euro-Atlantic integrational journey.
