President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, visited Prekaz, Skenderaj, today as part of the activities marking the KLA Epopee.
Initially, she paid homage at the “Adem Jashari” Memorial complex and visited the museum and the photographic exhibition opened within the Complex itself.
Afterwards, Madam President visited the Jashari family, where she was received by Mr. Rifat Jashari.
At a statement issued after the visit, President Jahjaga said:
Today, I had the honour to visit the Jashari family, on this day full of pain for them, as well as for the rest of Kosovo, on this 18th anniversary of the heroic loss of life of 53 members of this family and of this area.
I had the honour to meet with Mr. Rifat Jashari and other members of this family, to talk to uncle Rifat, to remember the great sacrifice that this family has made, as well as many other families all around Kosovo, in order to enliven our lifelong dream, our historic dream, to make Kosovo a free state, and independent state.
In these graves nearby are our peers, different generations of this family. Here, life was given and we must never forget that. Every time I come back to Prekaz I become emotional, because it reminds me of the great price which we as a nation and a state have paid, as well as it reminds me of the debt we owe to all those who have given their lives for our freedom and our independence, in order for us to build a Kosovo of all of its citizens, a Kosovo with a clear Euro-Atlantic perspective.
