President Jahjaga visited the flood-hit municipalities of Skenderaj and Klina

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, visited today certain municipalities of Kosovo, touched by recent flooding, where she received first hand information on the extent of the damage caused by flooding. She was received by the local municipal authorities, who informed her about the activities undertaken in order to alleviate the situation and provide the necessary help and assistance to the residents.

Initially, President Jahjaga visited the Municipality of Skenderaj, one of the municipalities which suffered the worst damage.

Accompanied by the Government of Kosovo’s Agriculture Minister, Mr. Blerand Stavileci and by the local government officials of the Skenderaj Municipality, President Jahjaga observed the damage sustained in Skenderaj and the surrounding villages of Llausha and Acareva.

Madam President spoke to the residents whose property has been damaged by flooding and discussed with them the situation they are currently in and for the efforts being undertaken for the damage alleviation as well as measures related to prevention of future flooding.

After the visit to Skenderaj Municipality, Madam President visited Klina Municipality. At a meeting held at the Municipality building, Mayor of Klina, Mr. Sokol Bashota, informed the President about the current situation created after heavy rain caused flooding, which in turn caused considerable material damage.

In order to see the extent of the damage, Madam President visited the village of Zajm, one of villages which has contained most of the damage caused by flooding which resulted after torrential rain.
Speaking in front of the journalists, President Jahjaga said that she undertook this visit today in Skenderaj and Klina Municipalities sin order to get first hand information about the situation created after the flooding.

“I am here in order to be side by side with the citizens and the municipal authorities, to express our support and see for ourselves the damage caused by recent flooding” said President Jahjaga.

“Natural disasters are unavoidable, unexpected and are hard to cope with when accompanied with accidents, as is the case in Izbica, where one little girl lost her life. We express our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family and the residents of the Izbica village. On occasions such as this, us as institutions and citizens must show our solidarity, stand by the citizens and offer all possible support”, said President Jahjaga.

President Jahjaga also visited the village of Rakovina, where she inspected the damage on the bridge, which has blocked the traffic on the Prishtina-Gjakova road.
