President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, received today at a meeting the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US State Department, Mr. Philip Reeker, with whom she disscussed the processes which Kosovo is going through, the agreement reached on the normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia as well as well as the participation of Kosovo on the regional and international initiatives.
Initially, President Jahjaga conveyed her felicitations to Deputy Assistant Secretary Reeker on the 237th anniversary of the independence of the USA, and emphasized that USA is a promoter of peace and stability as well as a guarantor of the rights and freedoms all around the world.
In relation to the agreement reached in Brussels on the normalisation of relations between the state of Kosovo and the state of Serbia, Madam President said that its implementation is of an utmost importance and assured Mr. Reeker that institutions of Kosovo are dedicated to the implementation of the agreement and absorption of pursuant responsibilities.
Madam President also spoke about the local elections date, set for November 3rd, to be held at the same time on the whole territory of Kosovo, which has transmitted a good message to all the citizens and emphasized that now the preparations must be undertaken for the forthcoming elections to be as free, fair and democratic as possible.
President Jahjaga also stated that Kosovo has become an important factor of peace and stability and its inclusiveness in all regional initiatives, on equal footing with all other participants, will enable our country to provide its contribution towards common issues and opens a new chapter in relations between the countries of the region.
Deputy Assistant Secretary of the State, Mr. Philip Reeker, emphasized the importance of the achievement of the agreement on normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia and also the importance of its implementation, as this enables the relaxation of relations between the two states. He also added that Kosovo and the Balkan region have achieved major advances on their integrational path and praised as important Kosovo’s participation in regional initiatives as well as provision of its contribution at these initiatives.
