President Jahjaga participated at the installation “Thinking of you”, in Prishtina

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga attended today the event “Collection of Dresses/Skirts”, organized at the “Ibrahim Rugova” square in Prishtina, the purpose of which is to contribute to the artistic installation “Thinking of you” by artist Alketa Xhafa-Mripa and producer Anna Di Lilellio, which is dedicated to women victims of sexual violence during the war.

The event is organized by the National Council for the Survivors of Sexual Violence during the War, established and led by the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga.

On this occasion, President Jahjaga, together with the organizers received a number of dresses and skirts donated by various personalities and citizens, who joined this initiative.

President Jahjaga donated the first dress which will commence the nationwide campaign.

Part of today’s activity were representatives of the local institutions, MPs of the Kosovo Assembly, Ambassadors of accredited countries in Kosovo and heads of international missions.

In a statement made on this occasion, President Jahjaga stressed:

As you have seen, today was the day in Pristina which with the presence itself, not only of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, the Embassies and international representations here in Kosovo, but also a very large number of citizens starting from today morning have been close to the tent here, so that through this work of art and this installation of the well-known artist, Alketa Xhafa-Mripa and producer Anna Di Lilellio we are trying to convey a more powerful message not only to the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, but also in the region and beyond. Through this work of art, through this installation we are not only saying that, we know the innocence of all those victims of sexual violence during the war, that we are ONE and we are close to all the victims of sexual violence during the war, but that we will continue to demonstrate our strong support both as a society and as institutions, until that moment that all these victims of all first to feel the spiritual tranquility in the soul of every single victim who has been in the last war in Kosovo, but that what is the most important, to bring justice in place for all the victims of sexual violence during the war.
You have heard several times saying that shame is not on them, shame is on all those who have committed this macabre act against all the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo and this message is to convey that shame is not on these victims, but on those who have committed this macabre act.

Through the National Council for the Survivors of Sexual Violence during the War and through a support which has been ongoing in the framework of this Council, for a full year of continuous work that is performed, we will continue to work on the rehabilitation, reintegration and the re-socialization of all the victims of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo, for an ongoing work of the institutions, civil society, international organizations, academic and artistic world, diplomatic corps, so it is a joint work of all of us.

The symbolism that has begun with artists for a full week, throughout all the cities of Kosovo to donate one skirt/dress is to show the purity of all these victims of sexual violence during the war and convey the message that in this war there is no WE and THEY, we are WE and we are ONE.

The installation will be realized through the placement of thousands of women’s dresses and skirts on hangers in the field of Prishtina stadium. The dresses and skirts will be collected all around the country in organized events with the support of nongovernmental organizations. Each donated dress and skirt will become part of the installation.

This installation is part of the awareness raising campaign organized by the National Council on Survivors of Sexual Violence during the War.
