President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, received today at separate meetings, the representative of the Kosovo Law Institute (KLI), Mr. Betim Musliu, and the representative of the Coalition of Non-Governmental Organisations, Democracy in Action.
Representative of the KLI, Mr. Betim Musliu, informed President Jahjaga with the preparation for the observation of the activities of the justice institutions and judiciary engaged in the process of smooth electoral proceedings of the municipal elections in Kosovo. He said that a great deal of work has already been done in prevention of misuses of electoral process and that the Institute will closely observe their activities in order to protect the free vote of the citizens.
President Jahjaga stated that it is important that citizens vote freely and safely and underlined the importance of holding of the elections in a democratic manner and of European standards.
President Jahjaga, at the meeting with the representatives of the Coalition Democracy in Action, discussed the smooth proceeding of the electoral process and the engagements of the Coalition in observation of the local elections.
Representative of the Coalition Democracy in Action, Mr. Ismet Kryeziu, informed Madam President with the preparations undertaken by the Coalition to closely monitor the whole electoral process in all polling stations, including those in the four municipalities in the northern part of the territory of the Republic of Kosovo. He stated that the Coalition will be fully engaged in observation and reporting on the smooth proceeding of the electoral process.
President Jahjaga said that engagements of the civil society in the electoral process are of an utmost importance as these elections are a test in democracy for Kosovo and of political maturity in the country. She also added that local elections in Kosovo must be free and fair and for this reason, the engagement of the observers, local or international, is needed in order to guarantee a proper electoral process.
