The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga, was received today by Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, in the Royal Court at Buckingham Palace in London, with the highest honors and with the intonation of national anthem of the Republic of Kosovo.
President Jahjaga considered the meeting with Queen Elizabeth II as a historic meeting, which carries with it a special significance for Kosovo and which ensures the support for the people and the country from the United Kingdom. President Jahjaga said that Kosovo appreciates the support and trust of the United Kingdom in its citizens to achieve peace, to live in freedom and to build a democratic country.
She stressed that the United Kingdom was the driving force of these ideals and values which has given the opportunity to the young generations in Kosovo to work for a different future, and there were thousands of British soldiers who provided security to Kosovo, enabling the building of the institutions and a joint life.
President Jahjaga stressed that the United Kingdom continues to be engaged in Kosovo and in the Balkan region in the establishment of the rule of law and order and in the achievement of peace between the countries of the region, on their path towards European integration.
President Jahjaga in the conversation with Queen Elizabeth II, spoke about the achievements of Kosovo in the construction of a democratic country, based on order and law and an inclusive country, which guarantees equal rights for all the citizens, without distinction, and also a country contributing to security and peace not only in the Balkan region.
President Jahjaga said that the country’s integration into NATO and the EU has united all its citizens and Kosovo today has no other alternative. She said that continuous efforts are being made to meet the standards for European integration, through the deepening of reforms in society, dealing with organized crime and corruption and the establishment of a good governance, which will enable also the recovery of the economy and foreign investments.
President Jahjaga stressed that Kosovo and the United Kingdom have continued to do joint work in various fields. She said that the two countries have been engaged in the prevention of sexual violence during the war, the provision of medical and social support for the victims of violence and the attempt to integrate them into society. She said that a group of British experts, together with the authorities of Kosovo, have managed to provide to the victims of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo, access to health services, the justice system and welfare.
President Jahjaga said that Kosovo continues to maintain and cultivate interfaith tolerance and harmony, despite its heavy past. She said that the United Kingdom has helped Kosovo in the promotion and cultivation of interfaith tolerance.
