Acting President Haxhiu: Qyshk, Zahaq and Pavlan remain evidential proof of a planned cruelty, of a state apparatus that turned the killing of Albanians into a method of war and the expulsion into a political goal

The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, said that today, on the 27th anniversary of the Qyshk Massacre, we respectfully commemorate the martyrs of Qyshk, Zahaq and Pavlan, 82 Albanian civilians killed on May 14th 1999, by Serbian forces. “That morning, Qyshk, Zahaq and Pavlan were hit as part of an organized operation by Serbian military, police and paramilitary forces. Women, children and the elderly were expelled from their homes, while the men were separated, robbed, locked in their homes and killed. Afterwards, the houses were burned to cover up the traces of the crime,” said the Acting President Haxhiu. She further added that in these villages unarmed people were hit, residents and visitors who may have been caught there by the war. “Lives were lost, entire families were affected, houses were burned and Albanian civilians were expelled from their lands. Qyshk, Zahaq and Pavlan remain evidential proof of a planned cruelty, of a state apparatus that turned the killing of Albanians into a method of war and expulsion into a political goal”, stated Acting President Haxhiu. Acting President Haxhiu: Today we bow with respect to the memory of the martyrs of the Korisha massacre, one of the most grievous events of the war in Kosovo

The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, paid homage today in Korishë. She stated that today, we bow with respect to the memory of the martyrs of the Korisha massacre, one of the most grievous events of the war in Kosovo. “On May 13th, 77 Albanian civilians lost their lives in Korishë, including 30 children, and 11 other martyrs who fell during the time period between March 24th 1999 to June 1999,” emphasized Acting President Haxhiu. She said that in Korishë and the surrounding villages, Albanian civilians were expelled, detained during the expulsion, rounded up and hard pressed by the Serbian forces. “A number of civilians were taken hostage and forced to serve the Serbian forces, who used them to act as guards and to build fences. There we also met one of the survivors of the massacre, Genc Ahmetaj, who told us the horror of that night,” said Acting President Haxhiu. According to her, Korisha is grave evidence of what the Serbian regime did to the Albanian civilian population: it expelled them from their homes, stopped them on the streets, took them hostage, used them for military purposes and then tried to distort the truth. “The families of the victims have the right to justice, and the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo will be by their side until the war crimes are fully brought to light. May the memory of the martyrs of Korishë be eternal,” said Acting President Haxhiu.

Acting President Haxhiu: Agron and his friends carried out tasks that were not always visible to the public, but without which the war could not have been won

The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, accompanied by the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, paid homage at the tomb of Hero Agron Rrahmani, on the 28th anniversary of his fall. “On the 28th anniversary of the fall, we respectfully commemorate the Hero of the Nation Agron Rrahmani. At a young age, he distinguished himself for his patriotic activities from Ballofc in Besiana to Prishtina. He began his activity early as a high school student in Besianë, and later continued it in parallel education in Prishtinë, Tiranë, Tetovë and many other areas, and became one of the people of daily action”, said Acting President Haxhiu. According to her, Agron and his friends carried out tasks that were not always visible to the public, but without which the war could not have been won: organization, movement, preparation, networking and complete belief that Kosovo had to be liberated. “Agron Rrahmani was a brave fighter, but more than that, he was also a man of military organization in the city. Before taking charge of the “Rexhep Mala” unit in Prishtinë, he had taken on the combat training for LKÇK members and volunteers, and had helped establish the training center in Tiranë, where over 300 volunteers were trained,” emphasized Acting President Haxhiu. She said that in February 1998, he was appointed commander of the first underground combat unit in Prishtinë, the unit that later named “Rexhep Mala”. “Agron fell heroically on May 12th 1998. That was an atrocious week for our war effort and one of the most severe blows to the early organization of the liberation war. Before him, Bahri Fazliu had fallen on May 7th and Ilir Konushevci on May 9th. Eternal glory to the hero Agron Rrahmani and all the heroes and martyrs of the nation!”, emphasized Acting President Haxhiu.

Acting President Haxhiu: Ilir Konushevci was only 20 years old when he began his commitment to the country’s freedom

The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, together with the Acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, paid tribute today at the graves of the hero Ilir Konushevci and Dr. Hazir Malaj on the 28th anniversary of their passing. On this occasion, Acting President Haxhiu said that on the 28th anniversary of the killing of Ilir Konushevci and Hazir Malaj, today we remember two respected figures, two heroes of the Republic of Kosovo and of our nation. Acting President Haxhiu said that Ilir Konushevci was only 20 years old when he began his commitment to the country’s freedom. “In the 1990s, when the territory of the Republic of Kosovo was filled with police violence, oppression, and discrimination against Kosovo Albanians, he became part of the first groups preparing armed resistance. He was part of the ‘Shqiponja’ group, and around him were heroes such as Zahir Pajaziti, Hakif Zejnullahu, and Edmond Hoxha, who chose the difficult and dangerous path solely so that our Republic could become independent and our country at that time could be liberated,” emphasized Acting President Haxhiu. According to her, Ilir Konushevci and Hazir Malaj are two very important figures of our nation, adding that they also served as an inspiration for many generations to join the Kosovo Liberation Army. She further stated that precisely when the Kosovo Liberation Army was becoming stronger at that time, Ilir Konushevci was entrusted with a task that was far from easy. “And that was to deal with the supply of weapons and ammunition. Several times he traveled the Kosovo–Albania and Albania–Kosovo route, because he knew that with every shipment a battle could be won, and with every delay of a shipment our people could be endangered. They were killed precisely at another moment when they were planning to bring another shipment to Kosovo, namely to the Kosovo Liberation Army, and the fall of Ilir Konushevci and Hazir Malaj was a heavy blow to the Kosovo Liberation Army. Therefore, today, with respect and honor, we remember two highly valued figures of our nation, of our Kosovo,” said Acting President Haxhiu.
