President Osmani: The 1997 student protests were a herald of freedom

In 1997, Kosovo’s students stood up not only for their own rights but for the dignity of an entire nation. They possessed the strength of their voices, the courage in their hearts, and the conviction that the future cannot be built on fear, injustice or oppression. Through the streets of Prishtina, in packed auditoriums, and across squares alive with chants and banners, they inscribed a golden chapter in our history of resistance. The 1997 student protests were a herald of freedom, where every step became an act of heroism and every call for justice became a pledge for liberty and independence. Today, as we recall those glorious days, we bow with respect to the generation that dared to challenge injustice with the power of peace. The students of ’97 taught us that freedom is not granted, is earned, and that the future is not awaited, but is built.
