The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani will join leaders from around the world to participate at the reopening ceremony of the Notre Dame Cathedral. President Osmani and First Gentleman Prindon Sadriu have been invited to this ceremony by French President Emmanuel Macron. In addition to the ceremony at the cathedral, they have also been invited to the Élysée Palace, at a dinner laid by President Macron in honour of the heads of state participating at the ceremony. Madam President will be in Paris alongside the newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump and other leaders of many countries of the world. The Notre Dame Cathedral, an 850-year-old monument of cultural heritage, has been restored following a devastating fire which occurred five years ago.

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, during her visit to Brussels, met with the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola. President Osmani reaffirmed Kosovo’s engagements for a close partnership with the European Parliament, emphasizing the importance of continued support for the progress of Kosovo’s integration into the EU. During the conversation, President Osmani briefed President Metsola on recent developments in the field of security, including the terrorist attack on vital infrastructure in Kosovo. She highlighted Serbia’s clear links to these attacks, including last year’s act of aggression in Banjskë for which there is still no accountability. Madam President stressed that it is essential that the perpetrators of these crimes are held accountable and face justice. She also reaffirmed Kosovo’s engagements in achieving its European integration objectives and sought the backing for the advancement of Kosovo’s application for EU candidate country status, as well as the lifting of measures that are predominantly harming Kosovo’s citizens.

At the meeting, President Osmani congratulated on his new assignment, hoping for continued cooperation to the common interest. President Osmani discussed developments in the field of security, including the recent terrorist attack on Kosovo’s vital infrastructure, an attack that was intended to leave a large part of Kosovo’s citizens without water, electricity, heating and with disruptions to the telecommunications system. She presented to President Costa evidence of Serbia’s links to this attack, as well as to the attack of September last year, which was an act of aggression against Kosovo. She added that the chief terrorist who had carried out the orders of official Belgrade on attacks on Kosovo, namely Radojćić, is still at large and this proves Serbia’s lack of readiness to take responsibility and accountability for acts of aggression against Kosovo. President Osmani expressed Kosovo’s full readiness to cooperate with international partners in the investigation of the terrorist act against vital infrastructure in Kosovo, while thanking the EU, the US and other NATO countries and beyond for the solidarity shown and the assistance provided. She emphasized that it is very important that, in addition to the investigation, our joint work also focuses on prevention of new attacks. Madam President emphasized that in order to guarantee stability in the Western Balkans, it is important to remain united in combating threats that endanger the peace and security of Kosovo and the entire region. She added that Kosovo is committed to the fulfilment of its European integration objectives, and therefore requested support in advancing Kosovo’s application for EU candidate country status. Furthermore, Madam President underlined that the lifting of restrictive measures would be a powerful message for Kosovo to contribute to the shared values and vision of the European Union, arguing again that they are unjust and that they harm the people of Kosovo the most, but also the very principle of balance and impartiality in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
