Kosovo and the USA sign the Compact Agreement worth 236.7 million dollars in Washington D.C.

In the American Congress, in the presence of President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti as well as the Minister of Economy Artane Rizvanolli, the agreement between the Republic of Kosovo and the United States of America, represented by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), an agreement was signed in the amount of 236.7 million dollars.

The signing of the Agreement with MCC comes after the successful conclusion of negotiations in May of this year and after the unanimous vote of the Compact Program by the MCC Board of Directors.

On this occasion, President Osmani stated that: “Today, the USA through the MCC, reaffirmed its steadfast support for our new Republic and its willingness to help us advance further in terms of sustainable economic development.”

She also emphasized that as a result of security developments in Europe and beyond, quick and smart interventions in the energy sector are vital and can become the most important legacy of our generation.

“The 236.7 million dollar investment is the biggest energy investment in our country for decades now. This investment will help create flexibility and stability in the electricity grid by enabling greater integration of renewable resources, as well as the development of skills that will contribute to the strengthening of the participation and engagement of women in the energy sector and in the labour market,” said President Osmani.

The MCC chief Executive Alice Albright pointed out that: “This signing represents the continuation of a deep partnership between the United States and Kosovo, and our commitment to work together to build modern, sustainable energy solutions which will benefit nearly 2 million Kosovars”.

The Compact Program will be the largest investment in the energy sector in the Republic of Kosovo. This Program includes three projects:

1. Investments in energy storage infrastructure

2. The development of the workforce and the inclusion of women in the energy sector, as well as

3. American Catalyst facility for development Project

The Compact program investments will be the property of Kosovo and mark one of the most important collaborations between the Republic of Kosovo and the United States of America.
