Below is the letter the British Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond, has sent to the President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi:

London, 08 April 2016

Dear President,

I am writing to offer you my congratulations on the occasion of your inauguration as President of Kosovo.

As a close friend of Kosovo, the UK supports, and will continue to support, Kosovo’s ongoing development and Euro Atlantic and international integration. We recognise the enormous progress that has been made in the last 8 years and will continue to lend our support to the vital reforms that Kosovo must now make, in particular to strengthen the rule of law and the fight against corruption and organised crime, which are vital for our joint interest and would help to bring prosperity, security and stability to Kosovo’s people. I also hope Kosovo will continue to play a constructive role in the region, notably through the Dialogue process with Serbia.

I look forward to continuing to strengthen the relations between our two countries, as the UK supports Kosovo in these important and challenging tasks. It is my intention to visit Kosovo in the coming months as well.

THE RT HON PHILIP HAMMOND MP
