“The United States will stand by you in every challenge that Kosovo will face”, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Euroasian Affairs, Mr. Philip Gordon, said during a meeting in Prishtina today with the President of Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Fatmir Sejdiu, and the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi.
Mr. Gordon reaffirmed the US strong and continuous support to Kosovo in all political and diplomatic developments.
The US will never accept and opposes any talks on Kosovo’s status or territorial integrity, because Kosovo is an independent state with its attributes” – Mr. Gordon added.
“Kosova and Serbia are two independent and sovereign neighbors and they can talk on such bases only”, Mr. Gordon said.
Reaffirming the maintenance by the United States of the support to our country, Mr. Gordon said the US has and will engage actively in increasing the number of recognitions for Kosovo.
President Sejdiu and Prime Minister Thaçi thanked Mr. Gordon for the continuous support that the United States has and continues to provide to the Republic of Kosovo.
Among others, they underscored good relations that Republic of Kosovo maintains with all the neighboring countries, with the exception of Serbia. They said Republic of Kosovo is ready to discuss a number of practical issues with Serbia, such as freedom of movement, fight against corruption and others, but never the status of Republic of Kosovo.
