“Prishtina, Skopje and Tetovo are closer to each other than ever before. They are connected by the history, the present and the future. The freedom of one of them is a product of the other and vice versa. Our freedom is our joint product”, said President Thaçi.

President Thaçi said that the has gone to Tetovo for several decades in different capacities and times and that his memories for this area are diverse.

Once, the elite of the Albanians in Macedonia, just as of all other Albanians in former Yugoslavia, was formed at the University of Prishtina. Right there, on the university premises the idea of a generation that will know how to defend the national interests was born and had been developed, in fractures of time and challenges of historic proportions. This elite even today leads the political, academic and cultural life of the Albanians in Macedonia”, said President Thaçi
He added that from this retrospective we can evoke a wide variety of situations on this joint and successful journey.
“A few decades ago we were actors and witnesses of a process of great historical changes”, he said, adding that the road to come here today is product of the great sacrifice of this generation as well, as a continuation of efforts of the generations prior to us.
At the Academy of the awarding of the title “Doctor Honoris Causa”, President Thaçi also spoke about the Ohrid Agreement.
He said that common goals, those of Kosovo, as well as those of Macedonia, match with the real aspiration of being together part of the Euro-Atlantic family.
President Thaçi said that the title “Doctor Honoris Causa” is an award for his generation, for all those students from Kosovo and Tetovo, who together sacrificed everything for the freedom and emancipation of Albanians wherever they are.
