The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaha, considers the local elections of November 3rd were held in a generally calm and acceptable atmosphere with a satisfying participation of the citizens in most of the country.
President Jahjaga congratulates the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo for their participation in the municipal elections and a democratic voting process, responsible and free.
The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga expresses her deep indignation and strongly condemns the intimidation and the prevention of the citizens of the Serbian community that live in the northern part of the Republic of Kosovo to take part in the local elections and to express their will freely.
Prevention, intimidation, blackmail of the citizens and the violence in some polling stations contradict democratic principles, hinders the process of the creation of an inclusive and tolerant country and infringes the path of European integration of the country.
The incidents and irregularities that have taken place in some parts of Kosovo, as attempts to infringe the free vote of the citizens are being thoroughly investigated and prosecuted by the authorities, evidence of the coordination and cooperation of the institutions of Kosovo to ensure the constitutionality and legality in the whole territory throughout this election process.
The violence against local and international staff in some polling stations in the northern part of the Republic of Kosovo and the use of tear gas in these stations is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Such acts will be met with swift response of the security mechanisms in an attempt to establish rule of law, a necessity in this part of the country.
President Jahjaga values the commitment and the engagement of the political parties and subjects, as well as candidates running for the municipal elections, for the good conduct of the process and for a generally calm and democratic election campaign and the respect for the democratic principle of the election process.
