Statement by President Shiroka Pula regarding the murder in Vitomiricë, Pejë

I am deeply shocked by the murder of a woman in Vitomiricë, Pejë—an incident whose circumstances demand an urgent, thorough, and impartial investigation.

I call upon the competent authorities to prioritize an investigation not only into the circumstances of the murder and the criminal liability of the suspects, but also into how the victim’s requests were handled and the actions taken by every institution legally obligated to protect her. It must be clarified whether all necessary measures were taken to assess the risk and ensure her protection.

Every indication of danger, every plea for help, and every complaint regarding institutional inaction must be treated with the utmost seriousness. Protecting the lives and safety of citizens is a non-negotiable obligation of our institutions.

I urge the justice institutions to act with urgency, professionalism, and impartiality, ensuring that every aspect of this case is investigated and that justice is served.

No woman should be left unprotected after seeking help from state institutions. The safety and dignity of every woman must be treated as a fundamental institutional responsibility; therefore, any suspicion of a failure to fulfil this responsibility must be met with a clear response.

I extend my deepest condolences to the victim’s family and all her loved ones.

Protecting the lives of women is a non-negotiable obligation; there can be no compromise when those lives are put at risk.
