Press Statement

Today, on October 17, 2017, the Office of the President was ready to host forty-two (42) judges and fourteen (14) prosecutors from the non-majority communities in the Republic of Kosovo, who, following the decree of the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi, should join the judicial and prosecutorial system of the Republic of Kosovo.

The decreeing of the judges and prosecutors from the non-majority communities in the Republic of Kosovo is one of the affirmative measures, that the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo undertake to achieve full and effective equality of community members in all fields of economic , social, political and cultural life. Today’s oath act had this purpose, for the full implementation of the Justice Agreement reached in Brussels on February 10, 2015.

Today, the decreeing of the judges and prosecutors from the non-majority communities did not happen because the candidates for judges and prosecutors did not come for decree. They did not come because they were hindered by the Republic of Serbia, with the sole purpose of not allowing their integration into Kosovo’s judicial and prosecutorial system. This is another step from the numerous steps that the Republic of Serbia undertakes against our citizens, because the inclusion of the judges and prosecutors from the non-majority communities in the Republic of Kosovo has a major role in the lives of the communities in the realization of their rights and in ensuring equal access to justice.

At the same time, today’s act of hindering the candidates for judges and prosecutors to come today for decree by the President is another failure and disability of the EU as a mediator in this process of implementing the Justice Agreement.

Despite this intentional failure orchestrated by Serbia, the Republic of Kosovo will continue to function, based on the constitutional and all-inclusiveness principles, so we once again invite the parties of the Justice Agreement to fulfill their obligations. The Republic of Kosovo has fulfilled its obligations in every aspect.
