President Vjosa Osmani’s address at the grant signing ceremony for 53 businesses owned by women and non-majority communities, organized by USAID

Honourable Ms. Alyson Grunder, Charge d’Affaires at the US Embassy,

Honourable Ms. Devitt,  USAID Mission in Kosovo Director,

Honourable Ms. Mahmuti, CDF Director,

Honourable entrepreneurs,

It is always a special honor when we gather together at events that focus on women and their continued successes. This event is truly a reflection of our shared commitment to economic inclusion, to empowering both women and non-majority community entrepreneurs.

In the area of economic growth and development, women’s empowerment stands as a cornerstone of our overall progress. The achievements of women entrepreneurs in Kosovo are not only individual successes; they are collective achievements that elevate and empower our entire society. These extraordinary women are breaking down barriers in traditionally male-dominated sectors, pioneering innovative practices and setting new quality standards. Their achievements are reshaping the business sector, contributing to a culture of equality and inclusion.

It has already been widely confirmed that women not only empower their businesses and families, but also contribute significantly to the improvement of the economic and social structure of our state. Therefore, our commitment to support women in business and to support all communities towards the same goal remains unwavering. We intend to provide more opportunities, resources and platforms for everyone to fully capitalize on their economic potential, because this is not only an investment in individuals, but it is the wisest investment for the future of our Republic.

While many of the women-owned businesses were forced to close as a result of the pandemic we left behind, the fact that today we are witnessing a new wave of new businesses owned and managed by women is hopeful indeed. This attitude speaks volumes about your strength and determination in our job market, but also in every sphere of life in general.

Today, as I stand before you, I also want to talk about USAID’s continuous and valuable engagement. USAID’s projects have touched every aspect of life in Kosovo, laying the foundations for a more sustainable future with greater well-being for all our citizens, without distinction. Our partnership with USAID is more than just a collaboration; it is a joint journey towards building a stronger, more inclusive and more prosperous Kosovo. It is a proof of the steadfast bond between the Republic of Kosovo and the United States of America, and at the same time it is a proof of our common commitment to further strengthen this partnership. Therefore, for this continued support, we are forever grateful.

USAID’s allocation of grants to 53 women-owned businesses and businesses led by women and men from non-majority communities is more than just a financial investment. It is a sign of confidence in the extraordinary abilities of our entrepreneurs. These funds will serve as a catalyst for further growth, innovation and sustainability in each of these vital sectors of our economy.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Our vision is one where every entrepreneur, regardless of differences, has the opportunity to contribute towards the increased prosperity of our country. We are working towards a future where these businesses not only survive, but are leaders in their fields, both in Kosovo and beyond our borders.

In recent years, we have witnessed a significant growth of Kosovo businesses, many of them owned by women who are reaping continued success in international markets. These successes span a wide range of sectors, from our excellent wines now being enjoyed in various capitals around the world to our agricultural products being recognized in foreign markets for their quality. Each of these successes is evidence of the entrepreneurial, innovative and hopeful spirit of Kosovo and the extraordinary potential of our businesses. In this regard, USAID’s support has been and continues to be essential.

To all the grant winners present here today, I express my heartfelt congratulations. It is your hard work, dedication and entrepreneurial spirit that have brought you this far. I am convinced that through these grants, you will be able to continue your work with dedication, which serves as a catalyst for transformative economic change throughout our country.

Honourable participants,

As we look to the future, let’s not forget that our journey towards economic inclusion and equality is an ongoing process. Every step we take, no matter how big, is a step towards a brighter, more equal and more prosperous future for our Republic. So let us continue to work side by side, supporting and uplifting each other and especially those most in need, as we aim to fulfill this shared vision.

Thank you.
