At the invitation of the Finnish Government, President Vjosa Osmani together with former President Fatmir Sejdiu, participated today in the funeral of the former President of Finland, Martti Ahstisaari.
At the state funeral held in Helsinki, more than 800 guests, heads and representatives of states, as well as partners from different stages of the career of former President Ahtisaari were present.
Honouring the memory of former President Ahtisaari, President Osmani said that: “Today we said our last farewell to the statesman and peacemaker Martti Ahtisaari. President Martti Ahtisaari’s tireless dedication to diplomacy, conflict resolution and human rights has left an indelible mark in our world”. Further, she expressed her deep gratitude for his contribution to the independence of Kosovo as well as for his exemplary service.
The guests at President Ahtisaari’s funeral have been invited by the Finnish Government in accordance with the wishes of President Ahtisaari’s family. President Ahtisaari’s contribution to peace and conflict resolution in different countries of the world was also recognized in 2008 when he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
