Prishtina, May 31, 2019 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, attended today the Memorial Academy for hero Xhemajl Fetahaj.
President Thaçi said that a short time before the liberation of our country, twenty years ago, the Kosovo Liberation Army along with the heroic war suffered attacks as well.
“Twenty years ago, on this day, our comrades Xhemajl Fetahaj and Milazim Shala fell heroically at Rrasa e Zogut, where the Albanian-Kosovo border was finally broken”, said President Thaçi.
He said that Xhemajl Fetahaj enters the line of activists and warriors who have an extraordinary biography on the path of the realization of their ideal for the freedom and independence of Kosovo.
“Xhemajl Fetahaj as a member of the liberation organizations, as a student of history experienced the prison, from where he further strengthened his conviction to work even more against the Serbian rule of Kosovo. After leaving the prison he made a valuable contribution to the Blood Feuds Reconciliation Movement”, stressed President Thaçi.
The Head of State has said that Xhemajl Fetahaj, in order to escape the second arrestment experiences exile but never stopped his national activity for the liberation of Kosovo.
“I also had the honor to interact in the same political organization with Xhemajl Fetahaj. With the commencement of the war in Kosovo, he does not suffice with his contribution given in the diaspora but grips the weapons and heads to the battle fronts of the Kosovo Liberation Army, ie in trenches”, said President Thaçi.
The fall of many martyrs in the battles, the sacrifices of martyrs all over Kosovo, according to President Thaçi, best demonstrates the high price of the freedom and independence of Kosovo.
“The Kosovo Liberation Army is the most successful political and military project of the Albanian nation in the last century. It is the most productive project for Kosovo, both internally and internationally”, he said.
The Head of State added that as time passes, the values of the fair fight of the Kosovo Liberation Army come to light even more, the values of its heroes and martyrs.
“Not a single attempt to stain the Kosovo Liberation Army shall be successful”, he said.
For two decades Kosovo has made tremendous progress, but according to President Thaci, Kosovo still faces challenges of its statehood on the international level, with the goal of joining NATO, the EU and the UN.
President Thaçi said that Kosovo has been and will remain grateful forever for the contribution of the United States of America, the European Union and NATO countries for the freedom and independence that we now enjoy.
