President Thaçi: The empowerment of the audit increases the accountability of the institutions

Prishtina, November 22 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, participated today at the certification ceremony of the public sector auditors, organized by the National Audit Office.

On this occasion, President Thaçi, together with the Auditor General, Besnik Osmani, have distributed the certificates to the new auditors, who will contribute to the improvement of governance and the increasing of the accountability in the public institutions of Kosovo.

In his speech, the President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, has said that he strongly supports the institution of the Auditor General and welcomes the ongoing work on the capacity building of this office.

The annual reports of the Office of the Auditor, in his opinion, are today a valuable source of information about the work of the state institutions. “In fact, these reports have turned into a roadmap for all the public institutions in Kosovo on how to spend public money responsibly and in the interest of the citizens”, said the President.

In front of many personalities of this field, Thaçi has emphasized that the ultimate goal of this is to further improve the governance in Kosovo, at all levels. He added that all the institutions of Kosovo need to increase the institutional cooperation in order to strengthen governance and legality.

The President has said that all of this, not only will bring better governance, but will further increase the citizens’ confidence in the public institutions.

“Today we mark another important step in enhancing the capacities of the public audit in Kosovo. I congratulate the certified auditors for this excellent achievement, whereas, I wish good luck and success to the Auditor General and the staff of the National Audit Office”, said at the end President Thaçi.
