Prishtina, 14 July 2017 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, today attended the ceremony organized by the France Embassy in Kosovo, in honour of the 14th of July, the National Day of France.
President Thaçi said that France's National Day, July 14, marks the inception of values that promoted freedom, equality and brotherhood not only in France but much wider.
These values, according to President Thaçi, became an inspiration for many nations of the world to overcome fear, to bring the oppression to an end and to gain freedom.
“Many modern states were built on these values, as a result of the will of the people, national unity, good governance secularism, etc., where all citizens are equal before the law”, said President Thaçi.
Before those present in this ceremony, President Thaçi emphasized that Kosovo people honourably recall this event which has had tremendous emancipatory influence throughout Europe.
“The struggle for freedom, independence and statehood in Kosovo was a union of the aspirations of the people for a sovereign state and of the strong support of our international allies. France was the first state to have incorporated Kosovo in the map of independent countries, whereas it recognized our independence the next day” quoted as saying.
President Thaçi emphasized that this is a proof that our journey towards freedom, independence and statehood was a common effort.
