President Osmani receives President Djukanović's support for Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe

At the invitation of the President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, the President of Montenegro Milo Djukanović was received today with the highest state honours.

President Osmani assessed the first visit of President Djukanović to Kosovo as additional evidence of the joint commitment to further advancement of good relations between the two countries and peoples. The two presidents discussed developments in Europe after the Russian aggression on Ukraine, the commitment to regional cooperation in the spirit of equality and inclusion, the importance of integration of the region in Euro-Atlantic structures, strengthening of Kosovo's position on the international stage, and for the commitment to the promotion of the rights of minority communities in both states.

At the joint press conference, President Osmani thanked President Djukanović for his important contribution to the recognition of Kosovo's independence and commitment to deepening of economic cooperation, to a common future in Euro-Atlantic structures and to guaranteeing the viable peace and stability in the region.

In this spirit, President Osmani asked for support from President Djukanović in the process of Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe and NATO, starting with the Partnership for Peace. “Montenegro's membership in NATO has only served to strengthen security in our region, hence Kosovo's membership should always be seen through this prism,” said President Osmani.

The President stressed that this visit will provide a boost to the strengthening of bilateral cooperation towards the fulfillment of common objectives, for lasting peace and stability in the region and a European future.

Meanwhile, President Djukanović mentioned Montenegro's support for Kosovo's European agenda and membership in international organizations, including the Council of Europe. Mentioning the importance of the Council for ensuring respect for human rights, the President stressed that this process is positive not only for Kosovo but for all member states of this organization.
