At the invitation of the President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, the President of the Republic of Latvia Egils Levits was received today with the highest state honors on an official visit.
After the bilateral meeting, the two presidents planted the tree of friendship in the Presidency garden, to further preserve and nurture the excellent interstate relations.
at the joint press conference, President Osmani stated that is a special honor for Kosovo to welcome for the first time President Levits, at the same time the first visit of a Latvian head of state to our country. “We had very substantive and productive discussions with President Levits. “I expressed our strong desire to build a close cooperation in the fields of security and defense but also in the fields of economic cooperation, digitalization and other areas benefiting our two nations,” said President Osmani.
President Osmani stressed that this visit coincides with a distressing period for Europe, where Ukraine is facing a terrible war started by Russia. “The Republic of Kosovo fully supports the independence and the statehood of Ukraine, which is reflected in the decisions taken by our institutions, coordinated with those of the European Union,” said President Osmani, adding that the two countries will continue to contribute to peace and stability on our continent.
Meanwhile, President Levits reiterated the full support of the Republic of Latvia for the integration of the Republic of Kosovo into the European Union and NATO, and at the same time welcomes Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe.
