The President of the Republic of Kosovo Dr. Vjosa Osmani Sadriu met with Kosovo's great supporter, John Kerry- US Special Envoy for Climate Affairs and former Secretary of State. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gervalla Schwarz.
President Osmani thanked Mr. Kerry for his personal commitment and dedication to helping Kosovo and its people move forward, to enjoy a unique and unbreakable relationship with the United States of America today. The President and Mr. Kerry also discussed developments in Europe and the region as a result of the Russian aggression on Ukraine and mentioned the efforts of the Republic of Kosovo to come to the aid of the Ukrainian people. President Osmani stressed the risk of destabilization of the region by Russian satellites and the need for Kosovo's membership in NATO as the best guarantee for peace and stability in the region. She praised the continued US support in strengthening Kosovo's role in the international arena, emphasizing that it is now even more important to increase support in the process of recognition and membership in international organizations.
Congratulating Mr. Kerry on his new role as President Biden's Special Envoy for Climate Change, President Osmani assessed that addressing the direct effects of climate change requires a transformative approach and leadership.
“Despite domestic and global policies, climate change will not stop happening. It is one of the most serious challenges of our time. Talking about climate change is not a luxury topic, but an existential one in ensuring the lives of our children. Kosovo is not immune to the effects of climate change. “Therefore, Kosovo rightly seeks to be part of global initiatives to combat climate change,” said the President.
