President Osmani congratulated President Zelenskyy on the Independence Day of Ukraine: There are few nations that truly understand the suffering of your country the people of Kosovo are among them

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu congratulated the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the Independence Day of Ukraine.

“On behalf of the people of the Republic of Kosovo, I extend my best wishes on Ukraine’s Independence Day. This special occasion would have normally been marked by glorious celebrations across your beautiful country, but as you face this unjust and unprovoked war by Russia, we stand with you in full solidarity, alongside the whole democratic world, as you fight for peace and freedom to prevail”, said President Osmani.

Below is President Osmani's congratulatory letter to President President Zelenskyy:

24 August 2022
Prishtina, Republic of Kosovo

H.E. Mr. Volodymyr Zelenskyy
President of Ukraine

Dear President Zelenskyy,

On behalf of the people of the Republic of Kosovo, I extend my best wishes on Ukraine’s Independence Day. This special occasion would have normally been marked by glorious celebrations across your beautiful country, but as you face this unjust and unprovoked war by Russia, we stand with you in full solidarity, alongside the whole democratic world, as you fight for peace and freedom to prevail.

On this historic day for your country, I wish you and the brave people of Ukraine enduring strength to continue defending the country you love and cherish so deeply, as well as the democratic values that we jointly profoundly believe in. We share the pain of your people who are undergoing unimaginable suffering at the hands of a genocidal regime and our thoughts are with families across Ukraine.

Mr. President, there are few nations that truly understand your country’s suffering, and the people of Kosovo are among them. We know how it feels to be a target of a genocidal and hegemonic regime whose violence is both brutal and indiscriminate, who has no respect for human dignity or for your country’s right to exist. But, my people also know that when there is determination, perseverance and resistance, there is nothing that can stand in the way of the will of a people for freedom.

The people of Kosovo will remain grateful to the Ukrainian soldiers who took part in the peace-keeping mission in Kosovo, for which I recently awarded them the Presidential Military Medal. In this spirit, today we stand ready to support you in any capacity that we can, and have immediately imposed sanctions on Russia. The Republic of Kosovo remains fully committed to further deepening our bond of friendship and the relations between our two countries and peoples.

I am confident that one day we will sit as equals amongst the European family, not just coexisting in peace but thriving in freedom, prosperity and democracy. We are with you in spirit, we are with you in action, and we will be with you until Ukraine wins.

Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration for you and your country.

Sincerely,

Vjosa Osmani Sadriu
President of the Republic of Kosovo
