Today we honor Mrs. Nekibe Kelmendi, a tireless human rights lawyer, courageous political activist, close associate of the historic President Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, and a clear voice for justice in the darkest times of our country.
She remained stoic despite the personal suffering caused by the cruel murder of her husband and sons by the Serbian genocidal regime, and never gave up her dedication to freedom, dignity, and justice.
Mrs. Nekibe Kelmendi has made an extraordinary contribution to state-building, to the drafting of the first Constitution of our independent Republic, as well as to many other state-building processes.
She continues to remain one of the brightest figures of our recent history.
Her memory will always live on as an inspiration to all those who believe in peace, justice, and the values upon which our country is built.
