For their contribution to the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR), the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Vjosa Osmani Sadriu, has awarded the Presidential Military Medal to the Ukrainian Contingent who are concluding their twenty-three year service in Kosovo in order to contribute to defending their country.
In her address, President Osmani highlighted the solidarity of the people of Kosovo with the people of Ukraine as they face this extraordinary aggression on their freedom and democratic values.
“Today’s Medal is an embodiment of our gratitude to your army, and our way of paying respect to the professionalism they have displayed in Kosovo, and the bravery they are displaying during this dark time for the Ukrainian nation”, said the President.
1400 Ukrainian soldiers have been deployed and served in Kosovo since 1999 contributing to peace, safety and security. The remaining 40-strong contingent from the Armed Forces Engineering Regiments will be returning to Ukraine.
Kosovo has joined democratic allies across the world in condemning and sanctioning Russia over the unjustified and unprovoked aggression towards Ukraine. In its efforts to support Ukrainians in these difficult times, Kosovo has also pledged to take in 5,000 refugees and will support 20 Ukrainian journalists to work remotely from Kosovo.
