President Osmani and Minister Gërvalla met with the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, who is currently in the United States of America, has commenced today with the meetings with the heads of states and delegations, on the fringes of the UN General Assembly. Accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, Mrs. Donika Gërvalla, she met today with the President of Lithuania, Mr. Gitanas Nausėda.

At the meeting, President Osmani and the President of Lithuania discussed the existing good relations between our two countries. The President thanked Lithuania for the unreserved support that this country has provided to Kosovo throughout the years.

“We remember your country's commitment to building peace and facilitating state-building in Kosovo,” said President Osmani. “But we also continue to remember the pain of the murder of the Lithuanian customs officer Aurius Senavicius during an action in the north of the country, whose 8th assassination anniversary we commemorated yesterday.”

The Presidents of Kosovo and Lithuania also discussed the challenges facing our two countries. In particular, the interlocutors focused on security challenges, which threaten peace and stability in the Balkan and Baltic regions.

President Osmani stressed that Serbia's aggressive policy towards our country's sovereignty, driven by Russian policy, poses a constant threat to regional security. According to her, the democratic world should line up in defense of the European values of the Balkan region and expressed Kosovo's position towards deepening of the partnership with democratic countries to prevent Russian and Serbian threats to national security.

President Osmani asked her Lithuanian counterpart that Lithuania continue to support Kosovo's membership and participation in important international initiatives.

“We expect the EU to support us in our ambitions, in accordance with the obligations arising from the SAA, according to which the EU should assist Kosovo in its membership in international organizations,” said President Osmani.
