President Jahjaga visited the Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies

President Jahjaga, during her stay in Vienna, where she is attending the 11th International Vienna Congress, visited the Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies, where she learned about the activities of this world renowned Institute.

While congratulating the leadership of this Institute for its work and dedication on documentation research and the memory of the fighting of anti-Semitism, racism and other types of discrimination, President Jahjaga stated that the purpose of the visit to this institution, institute which carries the name and the heritage of Simon Wiesenthal, is to learn more about its practice of documentation of the past.

Madam President also added that Kosovo, which is still dealing with the consequences of the last war, is still searching for the justice for the war victims and added that the bitter past must never be repeated again.

President Jahjaga said that the experience of this Institute is very valuable for Kosovo, in order for Kosovo to document its past and to build necessary legal and research mechanisms for provision of help for the victims of the last war and their families. Madam President also stated that Kosovo honours all those who sacrificed for the freedom and independence of the country and building of a better future for all the citizens of Kosovo.

Director of the Wiesenthal Institute, Mr. Bela Rasky, praised the visit made by President Jahjaga at their Institute and informed her with the work and programs offered by this institute. He added that facing the past is a slow and difficult process, particularly pinpointing the importance of public discussions on facing of the past, as well as establishment of special educational programmes for schools, with special role played by the civil society.
