President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, strongly condemns the attack upon EULEX personnel in the vicinity of Zvecan, which resulted with one loss of live and two wounded.
This attack on EULEX, mission which has undertaken incessant attempts alongside other security institutions to establish the rule of law on the whole territory of Republic of Kosovo, is an intolerable act of the forces which aim destabilization of our country and demolition of the Constitutional composition, in the period when the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo are showing its political maturity and is engaging in establishment of an all inclusive state.
The arrack upon EULEX is an attack upon the values of the state of Kosovo.
Such attacks, upon the international presence in Kosovo, during the period of preparations for municipal elections which aim all inclusiveness, are attempts to create an atmosphere of insecurity and fear.
While strongly condemning the attack, President Jahjaga appeals to the citizens for restraint and peace, in order to be able to create a peaceful climate for the election process, which would enable free and dignified voting for every citizen in all parts of Kosovo.
We appeal to the bodies charged with upholding of order and security to undertake all necessary measures to bring the perpetrators of this attack in front of justice as soon as possible.
President Jahjaga has also made a telephone call to the EULEX Head of Mission, Mr. Bernd Borchard, to convey the condolences of the citizen sand institutions of Kosovo in relation to the death of their colleague.
