President Jahjaga received Prime Minister Thaçi

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, received today at a meeting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi, and the political coordinator for the dialogue process on the normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, Mr. Blerim Shala, who informed the President on the proceedings of the last round of talks held in Brussels with the mediation of European Union and strongly supported by the United States of America.

Prime Minister Thaçi stated that the last round of talks was held in a constructive atmosphere where both parties presented their positions.

Delegation of the Republic of Kosovo upheld the position which requires that solutions are in congruity with the constitution and laws of Kosovo and which are beneficial to all the citizens and in favour of peace and stability; solutions which will help open a new chapter in relations between Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Serbia and helps both countries on their respective European agendas.

Parties did not manage to harmonise all viewpoints and additional time was requested for the possibility to reach a responsible decision. Baroness Ashton will be notified no later than April 9th on any decisions reached. In the following days, both European and US diplomats will be making attempts to try and convince parties to reach an agreement and for guarantees on agreement implementation.

President Jahjaga gave her full support to the position held by the Prime Minister on the dialogue process on normalisation of relations between Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Serbia as two independent and sovereign states. President Jahjaga stated that the dialogue process has no other alternative  and that solutions offered are not only in harmony with the constitution and the laws of the country but are at the same time European solutions in favour of all the citizens and enable creation of conditions for the application of rule and law and order.

Madam President emphasized that dialogue process helps the establishment of normal relations between the two states which in turn must help each other in their journey towards membership into European Union by building friendly neighbourly relations.
