President Jahjaga received NATO Supreme Allied Commander, General Philip Breedlove

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, received today the NATO Supreme Allied Commander, General Philip Breedlove, with whom she discussed the latest developments in the country, including the local elections, the dialogue process between Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Serbia as well as the further development of the security infrastructure and integration into North Atlantic Alliance.

President Jahjaga stated that NATO Commander finds Kosovo and the region at an important and at the same time quite sensitive stage in normalisation of relations between states, which require further investments by NATO and its peacekeeping force in Kosovo in order to guarantee security and establish an environment which allows for integration of all communities of our country. At the same time, she thanked thousands of men and women serving with KFOR in Kosovo, for their untiring work in creating oportunities for Kosovar citizens to develop their country.

President of the Republic of Kosovo also added that institutions of the country have been concentrating in the process of untying the political knots which will in turn ensure full integration of the country and establishment of the law and order in every corner of the territory of Kosovo, a precondition for strengthening and democratic functioning of Kosovo and opening of the doors to a more intense economic development. Madam President requested the international community to monitor the implementation of the agreements reached through the dialogue process mediated by European Union between Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Serbia in Brussels, and to condition the advancement of both countries in their EU integration process with their successful implementation.

Madam President also informed General Breedlove  with the security sector review process, already at its final stages, and stated that this process is closely linked with the identification of the need of Republic of Kosovo in the security field. President Jahjaga asked NATO Supreme Allied Commander to find modalities to allow the establishment of official relations between NATO and Republic of Kosovo, as an achievement of the vision of our state to become integrated into Euro Atlantic structures and eventually obtain NATO membership.

NATO Supreme Allied Commander, General Breedlove underlined his readiness and that of the KFOR peacekeeping force to continue with their mission in Kosovo and to guarantee the joint success of the international community and of the citizens of Kosovo. He congratulated President Jahjaga for the engagement of Kosovo towards integration of all communities into social and institutional life and normalisation of relations with neighbouring countries.
