President of the Republic of Kosovo Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, received at a meeting Lord George Robertson, former NATO Secretary General, , to whom she presented the “Golden Medal of Freedom, for great contribution to Kosovo’s freedom, awarded to him by former President Dr. Ibrahim Rugova.
President Jahjaga expressed the appreciation of the citizens of institutions of Kosovo for the support which United Kingdom has provided to Kosovo during the hardest periods and during the state building period. President Jahjaga said that NATO intervention, part of which United Kingdom was as well, was decisive in prevention of genocide in Kosovo and protection of the people of Kosovo.
President Jahjaga highly praised the contribution of Lord Robertson in Kosovo’s liberation and in protection of democratic values of the progressive world. She said that Kosovo will always be grateful for the contribution of thousands of boys and girls who served with the KFOR peacekeeping mission and other international missions, in guaranteeing of peace and stability in Kosovo and the region.
Lord Robertson expressed his gratitude for the honour made to him and classified the NATO intervention as a just act, which also determined his life as well. He added that he is proud of Kosovo; achievements and said that Kosovo’s future is in the hands of its citizens.
