President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, met in New York with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Thorbjorn Jagland, with whom she discussed the actual developments in Kosovo and in the region, the process of Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe and the European perspective of the region.
President Jahjaga stated that Kosovo is a promoter of peace and good neighbourliness in the region and is aiming to conclude the process of membership in all international organisations. President Jahjaga praised the role of the Council of Europe in Kosovo and said that Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe would help the country in many fields but also in the process of Kosovo’s European integrations.
Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Thorbjorn Jagland praised the achievements of Kosovo and emphasized the advances in the process of normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. He said that mixed Kosovo- CoE working groups are continuing their work and we expect the formalisation of the CoE office in Kosovo. He also said that a step by step approach is being undertaken in relation to Kosovo.
President Jahjaga and Secretary General of the Council of Europe also discussed other developments in the South-Eastern Europe and Kosovo’s as well as the regions European perspective.
