President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, and the Minister of State at the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office and UK Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflict, Baroness Joyce Anelay, visited today the municipality of Gjakova.
Together they visited the “Medica Gjakova” centre in this town and were informed with the proceedings of this centre.
At a statement issued on this occasion, President Jahjaga said:
We came here today, together with my good friends and a staunch supporter of women’s rights, especially of the victims of violence and torture around the world, the UK Prime Minister’s Special Representative, Baroness Anelay.
We came here at the “Medica Gjakova” centre to see the exceptional work which Mirlinda has been carrying out together with her staff for 16 years now, since the end of the war in Kosovo. This centre is the best evidence for us, for our nation, in order to realize our sufferings and the consequences of the war in Kosovo which are as yet fresh and tangible for our citizens and our nation. I have to thank “Medica Gjakova” for their exceptional work, for all the services they have provided to the victims of violence and torture during the war in Kosovo.
My presence here today is the best proof that they have always had my unreserved support, and they will continue to enjoy mine and the support of institutions of Kosovo towards their further rehabilitation, their reintegration into our society and especially for the issue about which we have been so adamant in Kosovo during these 16 post war years, for justice to be brought forward for all the victims of war and the consequences thereof.
Presence of Baroness Anelay is the best demonstration of the fact that this sacrifice of the victims of violence in Kosovo has international support, which I must admit we did not possess in sufficient amount in the post war years. From now on we shall have a strong international support and this issue will continue to be internationalized.
