President Barack Obama sends his felicitations to President Atifete Jahjaga

President of the United States of America, Mr. Barack Obama, sent his felicitations to the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the declaration of the Independence of the Republic of Kosovo.

President Obama’s congratulatory letter states:

Honourable Madam President,

I would like to convey sincere felicitations to you and the people of Kosovo on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the independence of your state, on February 17th.

The year that we left behind was particularly important for Kosovo. Your country has made some historic steps towards the ending of the supervision of the independence and membership in European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

While there still work to be done, Kosovo has moved forward towards consolidation of democratic institutions, enforcement of the Rule of Law, in the field of economy as well as further development of a tolerant, all inclusive and multinational state. Advances have been made on the dialogue with Serbia as well, which has lead towards the normalisation of relations which will benefit the citizens of Kosovo, your neighbours and the region as a whole.

United States are proud to be your close friend and partner and we remain dedicated to our joint aim- that Kosovo ensures its deserved place with an integrated, democratic and advanced  European future.

We admire the advances that Kosovo has made in these first five years of independence and we welcome the opportunity to work together with you towards further advances in the coming years.

Sincerely,
Barack Obama
