President Atifete Jahjaga organized the end of the year reception for the media representatives

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga organized today the end of the year reception for the media representatives, who have followed the activities of President Jahjaga throughout the year.

In a speech held on this occasion, President Jahjaga said:

Welcome,

We have made it a tradition to meet for the end of the year holidays with all of you, journalists, editors, chief editors, to talk about all the work, all the commitment, about all the achievements and successes within the year we left behind, but also about the difficulties, the problems, the challenges which we have passed in the year we are leaving behind.

Also, to thank you for all the work and all your commitment, that you have followed the work of the President of the country, that you have followed the work of the institution of the President of the country, although sometimes we did not agree with those which were published, but simply it is your job, it is your profession and this, however, is freedom of expression, press freedom and it is a process for which we always aim as a society, we aim as a state and I always say that you have played your role in our society and I appreciate your work, your professionalism, in the supervision of democracy. Your job itself, sometimes, like some kind of surveillance of our work, of the institutions of the country, makes us more responsible, more accountable in our work and in our commitments and for the vision of a democratic state, a developed state, an advanced state, governed by the rule law and order, a state where all our citizens see their future within their own country, who see their perspective within their own state and a state which every one of us, starting from the citizen and all the institutions, is proud of its country and its institutions.

I believe we do not have time to talk about all the problems and achievements, but I will use the time to talk with everyone of you individually about all the achievements that we have had as a country, but also the problems and challenges especially in these six last month, which we have passed.

I guess that 2015 is a year in which a pretty great job is awaiting for us, a very large commitment of all the institutions and our citizens, it is a year, I call it of deep reforms that must happen in our country, reforms which should have happened maybe for years, but we now have to catch the step, because we have a long way to European and Euro-Atlantic integration. All reforms in every society, even in the most advanced democratic ones, are reforms which in some way met with resistance among the citizens, but they are painful reforms, we all accept them, they are necessary reforms, which are associated with the well-being and improving the lives of all the citizens of the country. In each journalist and in each medium of the country I see powerful allies, on one side, for citizens of the country, but also for the institutions of the country, that whenever it is to praise the institutions and the work which is done, but also whenever it is for criticism, certainly that this should also be done, because that is also part of the work and affects the transparency of the institutions of the country.

I wish all the best for the end of the year holidays to you, your families and, through you, to all the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, for it to be a year of successes and a year of our citizens’ welfare, of further prosperities.
