NATO Parliamentary Assembly bestowed President Osmani with the Women, Peace and Security Award

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, was honoured today with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Award for Women, Peace and Security, an award that honours the leadership, contribution and engagement of women who have advanced peace, security and democracy in their countries and around the world. Accepting this award, President Osmani stated that this is “a special honour and an award dedicated to the people of Kosovo, and in particular to all the women of Kosovo, those who with courage, dignity and love helped build peace and achieve our freedom”. “Our peace is built on their sacrifice and courage, while our democracy has been strengthened due to the dedication of women who stood steadfast at every step of our journey towards freedom and equality”, emphasized President Osmani. President Osmani further added that the appreciation conveyed by the NATO Parliamentary Assembly is also a recognition of Kosovo’s efforts in advancing the Agenda for Women, Peace and Security, through the International Forum for Women, Peace and Security and the Regional Centre of Excellence, which the Presidency of the Republic has now transformed into important platforms for regional and international cooperation.

President Osmani officially travels to Slovenia, a special guest of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, departed today to Slovenia, where she will participate in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly which is being held in Ljubljana. President Osmani is a special guest at this session, invited by the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Marcos Perestrello. During her one-day visit to Slovenia, President Osmani will hold a bilateral meeting with the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar. Also, during her stay in Ljubljana, President Osmani will participate in the official reception held in honour of the session of the Parliamentary Assembly by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia, Urška Klakočar Zupančič. President Osmani will also hold other meetings during this session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

President Osmani mandates Mr. Albin Kurti to form the Government of the Republic of Kosovo

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, pursuant to her constitutional powers, has signed the Decree today by means of which she mandates Mr. Albin Kurti to form the Government of the Republic of Kosovo. This decision was taken following the official proposal of the Vetëvendosje Movement party, which won the largest number of seats in the Assembly as a result of the elections held on February 9th of this year. According to the Constitution, the mandate holder for the formation of the Government, Mr. Kurti, is obliged to submit the composition and program of the Government to the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo for approval no later than fifteen (15) days from the date of the decree. Madam President wished Mr. Kurti, the acting Prime Minister, success with hope that the Republic of Kosovo will soon have a government with a full constitutional mandate.

President Osmani received the Chairman of the CEC, Kreshnik Radoniqi

On the eve of the local elections that will be held this Sunday in all municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, received the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Mr. Kreshnik Radoniqi. President Osmani emphasized the carrying out a peaceful, orderly and fully integrity electoral process, as the foundation of democracy and citizens’ trust in the country’s institutions. In this meeting, President Osmani placed special emphasis on the direct interventions that Serbia is making in local elections, a phenomenon repeated over the years, which is manifesting itself through vote buying, external interference, intimidation and violence. On this occasion, Madam President strongly condemned the interventions of official Belgrade, calling for maximal engagement in protection of the integrity of the electoral process. She also appealed to all political and institutional actors, as well as international ones, to contribute to the protection of free vote and to condemn any unlawful act that violates the democratic will of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.

President Vjosa Osmani received the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States of America, Ms. Anu Prattipati. Recent developments in the country, various aspects of bilateral cooperation, as well as expectations regarding the full functioning of institutions, following the latest Constitutional Court adjudication were discussed at the meeting. President Osmani and Ms. Prattipati also discussed the meetings and discussions held with the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, and other senior American officials during the United Nations High-Level Week, which was held in New York.
