The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, received yesterday the world-famous Kosovar boxer Haxhi Robin Krasniqi, whom she congratulated for his successes achieved in boxing so far. President Osmani singled out the achievements of our expats in various walks of life, including sports, and stressed that this is in function of Kosovo’s positive image. President Osmani also pointed out the need for greater support for female boxers, an issue on which boxer Krasniqi has also expressed his readiness to work on. President Osmani wished the boxer Krasniqi success in his next match at the “Fadil Vokrri” stadium and emphasized that the successes of Kosovar sportsmen are an honour to Kosovo.

President Vjosa Osmani’s address at the establishing ceremony of the Kosovo-Austria Friendship Association Honorable Prime Minister Kurti, President Sejdiu, Honourable friend of Kosovo MEP Lukas Mandl Honourable Ambassador of Austria to Kosovo, Mr. Vranovci, Honourable Minister Peci, Honourable attendees, Chief Mufti Tërnava and Mayor of Gjilan, and of course, dear friends, Dear participants I am honored to be present at this solemn act today, the establishment of the Kosovo-Austria Friendship Association. The state of Kosovo was established also with the unconditional help and support of its friends such as Austria, and for this reason, the establishment of this association will further strengthen the already special friendship between our two states, which is quite long-lasting already. At a time when our continent is facing numerous dangers from autocratic and hegemonic systems, it is extremely important that our countries strengthen ties and that our nations strengthen these ties as well. The power of friendship between countries is immeasurable, while the benefit to the people of both countries is extremely great. They are built on the basis of trust, values and the desire to work together for the common good. Meanwhile, mutual economic cooperation also serves as a basis for long-term friendship, thus promoting stability and cooperation on a global scale. Kosovo’s friendship with Austria is as old as it is precious. Going back to the nineties, Otto von Habsburg, a great friend of the historic President Dr. Ibrahim Rugova and of our nation, strongly advocated the protection of human rights and freedoms in Kosovo. During the dark days of our history, when the Serbian genocidal regime closed the schools and the university, it was the state of Austria and the friend of Kosovo Erhard Busek, as already mentioned, that enabled our young people to continue their studies in Austria, being the first state European which recognized our diplomas. Historical evidence shows that the state of Austria constantly helped with the education, science, culture and independence of the Albanians, also being among the first countries that supported our right to be free and independent. The former Kosovo status negotiator, the Austrian diplomat Albert Rohan, was also among the greatest backers of our path to independence. Therefore, a heartfelt thank you to all our Austrian friends, who at various time periods supported us in our journey towards freedom, independence and nation-building, which is being demonstrated even today through the powerful voice of Lukas Mandl in the European Parliament and as well as the voice of the Austrian deputies in the Austrian Parliament. Of course, we have more than historical ties with Austria, many, many references unite us from the past. But, with Austria, above all, the future unites us. Since we share common values, such as European identity and European values, we are determined to traverse this path. Friends are tested on difficult days, our people say. Austria is a friendly country that has come to our aid continuously, hence the establishment of the friendship association is a necessity, a respect and a gratitude. Austria was with us yesterday, is with us today, and we have no doubt that it will also be with us tomorrow! This association is therefore one more opportunity for our two countries to continue the tradition of friendship, as a legacy to the generations that will come after us. The friendship between us is a beacon of hope in an increasingly divided world. This friendship is the key to peace, prosperity and understanding between nations and states. As we strive to build a better future, let us remember the power of friendship and work towards strengthening the ties between our nations and countries. Together, we can create a world in which friendship triumphs and where understanding, cooperation and solidarity are our destiny! God bless the friendship between Kosovo and Austria! Thank you!
President Osmani commemorated the patriot Ukshin Hoti, on the 24th anniversary of his enforced disappearance by Serbian forces
The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, has commemorated the patriot Ukshin Hoti on the 24th anniversary of his enforced disappearance by Serbian forces. For 24 years, the fate of the patriot and intellectual Ukshin Hoti remains unclear, as his name continues to remain on the list of those forcibly disappeared by the Serbian genocidal regime a. On May 16 1999, after his release from Dubrava prison, he was forcibly abducted under circumstances that are still unclear, while the effort to clarify his fate has never ceased. The staunch follower of the idea of the Republic continues to remain our permanent reference for engagement for the national cause. Ukshin Hoti is the man who combined political thought and political activity for the benefit of the idea of Kosovo as a state. Today we remember him with respect as a symbol of the Republic, freedom and democracy! These principles guide us in our endeavours in strengthening of the state, while our determination to bring light to his fate will never stop.

Tokom nedelje, predsednica Republike Kosovo Vjosa Osmani dočekala je na sastanku profesora međunarodnog prava na Univerzitetu George Washington u Vašingtonu g. Seana D. Murphyja, koji je bio član tima za zastupanje Kosova pred Međunarodnim sudom pravde u slučaju koji se odnosi na zakonitost proglašenja nezavisnosti Kosova 2008. godine. Kao što je poznato, ovaj slučaj je bio jedna od najvećih pobeda u istoriji Kosova, gde je MSP potvrdio da je proglašenje nezavisnosti bilo u skladu sa međunarodnim pravom. Na sastanku sa predsednicom Osmani razgovarano je o zajedničkom radu koji je tada obavljen kako bi Kosovo prikupilo neophodne argumente koji su doveli do pobede Kosova pred ovim sudom, kao i izazovima sa kojima se Kosovo i danas suočava. Predsednica Osmani je izrazila zahvalnost naroda i institucija Kosova za doprinos profesora Murphyja i celog tima MSP-a i obavestila ga o nekim od važnih inicijativa kosovskih institucija koje imaju za cilj jačanje pozicije Kosova u međunarodnoj areni. Između ostalog, predsednica Osmani je čestitala profesoru Murphyju nagradu Doctor Honoris Causa na Univerzitetu u Prištini kao priznanje za njegov doprinos sudskom procesu u MSP-u. U tom smeru, predsednica Osmani je izrazila spremnost da nastavi saradnju sa profesorom Murphyjem i u buduće.

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani received today a group of the Network of Women of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie, led by Mrs. Chantal Soucy, president of the Network of Women Parliamentarians and at the same time vice-president of the National Assembly of Quebec in Canada. President Osmani congratulated Mrs. Soucy on the 120th anniversary of the establishment of the Network of Women Parliamentarians within the Organization of the Francophonie and expressed Kosovo’s gratitude for the contribution this organization has made to the cultivation and promotion of Francophone values around the world. Kosovo, as a member of this organization, is active in promoting mutual cooperation with Francophonie member countries and cultivating common values, which this organization promotes. She also expressed her satisfaction that, as part of the excellent cooperation that the institutions of our country have with this organization, the Parliamentary Seminar of this network is being held today at the Assembly of the Republic. The President and the delegation of the Network of Women of the Parliamentary Assembly also discussed the attentiveness that the institutions of Kosovo are showing to the women who were raped during the war in Kosovo and the efforts to also ensure, in addition to support, justice for them. “Serbia bears direct responsibility for the crimes committed in Kosovo, including sexual crimes against women,” said President Osmani. Madam President informed Mrs. Soucy of the preparations for the Forum for Women, Peace and Security, which this year will be held for the second time and invited her and the women parliamentarians of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie to participate at the Forum. The Forum for Women, Peace and Security, said the President, “serves as an important instrument for the promotion of women’s rights and the further advancement of their position in society and greater participation in institutional life”. Ms. Soucy expressed her pleasure with the visit and emphasized that she will continue to work for the further promotion of women’s freedoms and rights.

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, has congratulated Mrs. Ylfete Fanaj on her election as the first cantonal minister originating from Kosovo, at the same time the first Kosovar woman to be entrusted with an executive task. President Osmani said that Ylfete is an inspiration for our women and girls and a demonstration that through work and dedication, everything is achievable. President Osmani’s full statement: In 2021, I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Ylfete Fanaj, in the capacity of Speaker of the Parliament of Lucerne in Switzerland to congratulate her on her successes over the years in the Swiss Confederation. She demonstrated zeal and determination toward the improvement and advancement of policies for all communities without exception. Today, I have the pleasure of cordially congratulate her on becoming the first cantonal minister of Kosovar descent and at the same time the first Kosovar woman entrusted with an executive task. She is among the most worthy representatives of our diaspora, which is a vital part of the state of Kosovo. President Osmani commemorates the 24th anniversary of the Massacre in Qyshk, Zahaq, Llabjan and Pavlan
24 years ago in Qyshk, Zahaq, Llabjan and Pavlan, the forces of the Serbian genocidal regime savagely killed and massacred 44 civilians in Qyshk, 17 in Zahaq, 21 in Pavlan and 13 in Llabjan. They were killed in their centuries-old lands and are strong evidence of Serbian crimes in Kosovo. We will always remember them, as we will never stop looking for justice to give meaning to our freedom! May the memory of the martyrs of Qyshk, Zahaq, Llabjan and Pavlan be eternal!

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani received the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix. President Osmani discussed with Mr. Lacroix the latest developments in the country and the region. The special emphasis was the progress and successes in strengthening democracy and the rule of law, which are now internationally recognized. Furthermore, President Osmani also spoke about the extraordinary potential of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as the need for cooperation in order to capitalize on this potential. The need to work closely with UN institutions in terms of supporting survivors of sexual violence during the last war in Kosovo was also discussed at the meeting. President Osmani emphasized that it is important to engage directly with the survivors, which is also in the spirit of the Agenda for Women, Peace and Security. Madam President stated that Kosovo serves as an example for the promotion and advancement of this agenda, not only in Kosovo but globally. President Osmani pointed out that the ongoing organization of the International Forum for Women, Peace and Security is an example of the Republic of Kosovo’s commitment to advancing this agenda, aiming to create a safer, more peaceful and more inclusive environment for women and girls while strengthening their role in every process. In this regard, Mr. Lacroix emphasized that this agenda is also a high priority of the United Nations. On the subject of the United Nations mission in Kosovo, the President once again reiterated the position of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo that UNMIK has completed the purpose of its mandate. The latest developments in the dialogue with Serbia were also discussed, with President Osmani reiterating that Kosovo continues to be a constructive party in this process and is committed to long-term peace and stability in the region.
