Madam President: In Krushë e Madhe and Krushë e Vogël, where hundreds of men and boys, children and women were cruelly killed and where the absence of the missing still weighs upon the land like an ongoing silence

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, participated today at the memorial gatherings, on the 27th anniversary of the massacres in Krushë e Madhe and Krushë e Vogël. President Osmani wrote: Today was not just a memorial. It was a return to the remembrance that does not fade and to the pain that refuses to become the past. After many years of waiting and pain, in Krushë e Vogël we said our final goodbye to Ajvaz Shehu, who until now had been forcibly disappeared. He was only 15 years old when he was killed, while for 27 years, his mother hoped that she would find her son. In Krushë e Madhe and Krushë e Vogël, where hundreds of men and boys, children and women were cruelly killed and where the absence of the missing still weighs upon the land like an ongoing silence, every step seemed to touch living history. A reality where even Serbia’s attempt to erase the traces of the crime with fire failed to extinguish the truth, but made it even stronger, even more indelible. And yet, in this space where pain has taken hold like an unwritten law, life has not retreated. In the eyes of children raised without parents, in the silence that is not surrender, but memory, in the ceaseless fight for justice, a resilience appears that resembles the history of Kosovo itself. Krushë e Madhe and Krushë e Vogël are not only memories of the crime, but moral boundaries of a history that seeks justice and refuses to be closed in silence. Eternal glory to those who fell for freedom!

Kosovo at the White House: First Gentleman Prindon Sadriu represented the country at the inaugural Summit hosted by First Lady Melania Trump

First Gentleman Prindon Sadriu participated at the inaugural Summit of the “Fostering the Future Together” global coalition, at the invitation of the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump. The main event took place at the White House, where Kosovo, represented by the First Gentleman Mr. Sadriu, was among the only 8 countries selected to deliver the keynote address of the occasion, out of 45 participating countries. In his speech, Mr. Sadriu thanked the United States of America for its decisive support to Kosovo, and emphasized Kosovo’s commitment to empowering children and youth through education, innovation and technology, always placing their protection at the centre of digital development. In December 2025, at the initiative of President Vjosa Osmani, the President and the First Gentleman officially announced Kosovo’s decision to join the “Fostering the Future Together” global coalition. The two-day summit began with meetings at the US Department of State, where Mr. Sadriu met with senior US officials, including Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, and held talks with representatives of leading technology companies such as OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, Meta, xAI, Palantir, Adobe and Zoom Communications. Kosovo’s participation at this Summit demonstrates not only the international appreciation for our country, but also the commitment of Kosovo, as well as of President Vjosa Osmani, to provide actual digital and educational opportunities for the new generation. This is a historic moment, confirming Kosovo as an active and reliable partner in global initiatives for the future of children.

President Vjosa Osmani on the 27th anniversary of the Padalishtë massacre: This day is not only a commemoration, but a call for justice

27 years ago, the forces of the Serbian genocidal regime committed one of the most serious war crimes in Kosovo, the Padalishtë massacre in Skenderaj and Cerkolez, Istog. Serbian criminal forces massacred 19 members of the Imeraj family, not sparing even the most defenseless: 11 women and 5 children aged 2 to 16. An inhuman act that aimed not only to exterminate a family, but also to extinguish the very hope for life. This day is not only a commemoration, but a call for justice, which is still waiting to be put in place. May the memory of the martyrs be eternal!

Today’s address by President Osmani on the 27th anniversary of the Krusha e Madhe massacre

Honourable families of those who fell for freedom, Honourable Mayor, Mr. Latifi, Honourable Ministers, Minister Hoti and Minister Pacolli, Honourable former Prime Minister Haradinaj, Honourable members of the Assembly of Kosovo, Representatives of the security institutions, Honourable guests, We got together again this year to remember, honour and never forget one of the deepest wounds of our recent history, the massacre in Krushë e madhe. In March 1999, this land was covered with indescribable pain. 241 residents of Krushë were massacred by the forces of the Serbian genocidal regime, among them 7 children and 5 women, including a pregnant woman. They were not killed in battle, but were killed in their village, in their homes, in the embrace of their families. This was a premeditated crime, this was a planned massacre, it was a deliberate act to take life, to erase memory, to erase the very existence of the inhabitants of this village. It was an attempt to exterminate Albanians from their lands, but the tragedy does not end there. Even today, 64 inhabitants of Krusha e Madhe are still on the lists of those who have disappeared by force. They are open wounds, they are indescribable absences, which weigh daily on their families first and foremost, but also on our conscience as a nation and as a state and interrupted histories, which still await justice. Among these open wounds lies the still unsolved fate of Ukshin Hoti, the inimitable intellectual, the courageous thinker and the voice that never refused to be subdued. He was a political and academic figure, who articulated freedom as a right and as a necessity. His enforced disappearance remains one of the deepest wounds of this history, an injustice that has not faded with the passage of time. But, at the same time, the fate of Ukshin Hoti is also proof of our determination as a state, because every time his name is mentioned, and that of all those who are still forcibly disappeared by the genocidal regime of Serbia, not only the pain returns to our state and families, but above all the demand for justice. The memory is brought back that there are stories that can never be closed without being revealed, just as there are figures that no one can ever erase, because they will forever live in the memory of our people. However, in the face of the tragedy it faced, Krusha e madhe did not break. From this immense pain, women rose up, who proved that life is stronger than death. One of them is Fahrie Hoti, a woman who turned pain into strength, loss into resilience, and tears into work and dignity. She, like all the women of Krusha, proved that survival is not just about living, but about getting up, building, never giving up, and above all, continuing to work for justice every day. Krusha e madhe today is a testament to this strength, a testament that the whole world saw with its own eyes. It is proof that even when everything seems lost, one can find the strength to continue and fight for causes greater than oneself, but this strength does not replace justice. Therefore, from this place we once again demand responsibility. We demand that the perpetrators of these crimes be brought to justice, so that the pain does not remain nameless and unanswered. Only in this way can we build a future where such crimes are never repeated. Today, as we bow to the victims of Krusha e madhe, we also make a permanent pledge that we will never forget, that we will seek justice without stopping, that we will keep the memory alive forever, not only as pain but also as a responsibility. Let us look forward, but never forget and learn to build a future where human dignity is inviolable. Eternal glory to all the martyrs of Krusha e madhe! Eternal glory to all the martyrs of the Kosovo Liberation Army! Eternal honour to the inimitable intellectual, Ukshin Hoti! Eternal honour to all the forcibly disappeared, for whom we will continue to work to find out their fate! May God bless Krusha! May God bless the Republic of Kosovo! Thank you! \

President Vjosa Osmani: On the doorstep of their home, where life and safety should have reigned, members of the Berisha family from Suhareka faced the barbarity of Serbia’s genocidal regime

On the doorstep of their home, where life and safety should have reigned, members of the Berisha family from Suhareka faced the barbarity of Serbia’s genocidal regime. 49 members of this family, of whom 19 victims were under the age of 18, were brutally massacred, while their bodies were moved elsewhere and disappeared, in an attempt to hide the crime and erase traces of the truth. Fate willed that three of them, Vjollca with her son Gramoz and Shyhrete, escaped. They remained not only witnesses to a serious crime, but also the voice of an unfading memory. This story is not only painful, but also calls for justice. It is a memory that must not be allowed to fade, because crimes that are forgotten risk being repeated. The memory of crimes like this is the foundation of truth and the demand for justice. May the memory of the martyrs be eternal!

Statement to the media

The President of the Republic of Kosovo welcomes the judgment of the Constitutional Court in cases no. KO 72/26 and KO 74/26, which confirm the legal arguments submitted by the Presidency to the Constitutional Court regarding this case, and confirm that President Osmani has not committed any constitutional violations. In accordance with the comments sent by the Presidency, the Constitutional Court itself confirms in paragraphs 153, 155 and 190 that the 60-day deadline must be consumed before the 30-day deadline provided for in Article 86.2 of the Constitution, and that this 30-day deadline before the end of the mandate of the current President is final and binding, and cannot be relativized. The Court, in no paragraph of its judgment, has found a violation of the Constitution by the President. On the contrary, it has confirmed that it is not the decree that leads the country to new elections, but rather the failure of the Assembly to elect a new President that causes this election process. The Presidency has expressed the same position in the comments sent to the Constitutional Court, emphasizing that the decree is simply a formalization of an existing situation and that it is not the decree, but the failure of the Assembly itself to elect a President that leads the country to elections. Consequently, given that the circumstance of not constituting the Assembly on time was not foreseen by the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, the Court has interpreted an exceptional circumstance that applies to this specific case, clarifying that “in all cases of the election of the President in the future, namely the procedure for the election of the new President, which cannot last more than 60 days, must begin before and end no later than 30 days before the end of the mandate of the current President.” (paragraph 191 of the Judgment) The President welcomes the 34-day deadline granted to the members of the Assembly of Kosovo by the court and calls on them to urgently fulfill this constitutional obligation. The granting of this additional deadline by the Constitutional Court was in no way within the competence of the President of the Republic. But it is precisely the President’s decree that has paved the way for this important clarification by the court as the sole and final authority to interpret the Constitution. Political statements about alleged constitutional violations show both a misinterpretation of the judgment as well as extreme politicization of a situation already clarified by the Constitutional Court: that the failure to elect the President of the country is the responsibility of the members of the Assembly and as a result of the lack of political will to reach a consensus on the election of the President. Instead of such unreliable statements, we invite the Assembly of Kosovo to set the date of the new session for the election of the new President as of tomorrow and to fulfill the obligation for which they were elected, giving the country stability and security.

President Osmani: 27 years ago, in Tërnje, Suharekë, the forces of the Serbian genocidal regime committed one of the most serious crimes against innocent civilians

27 years ago, in Tërnje, Suharekë, the forces of the Serbian genocidal regime committed one of the most serious crimes against innocent civilians. 28 children, women and men were cruelly killed, innocent lives were brutally cut short, just because they were Albanians and lived on their land. The memory of them obliges us to never forget and to continue our commitment to justice, so that such crimes are never repeated again. May the memory of the martyrs of the Tërnje massacre be eternal!
