Friday, November 11, 2016 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, has participated at the conference organized by the OSCE Mission on the information campaign of the package of laws on human rights.
President Thaçi has said that the fundamental rights and freedoms are indivisible, inalienable and inviolable and are the basis of the legal order guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo.
“Kosovo is being engaged to respect and promote the international rights and instruments associated with the protection of human rights and fundamental rights. Special attention is being paid to the protection of persons belonging to vulnerable groups and minorities, for them not to be discriminated”, said President Thaçi.
According to the President, the legal framework regulating the field of human rights has been significantly advanced upon the approval of the package of laws on human rights, including the Law on Protection from Discrimination, the Law on Gender Equality and the Law on the Ombudsperson.
“The importance of fundamental human rights and freedoms is crucial to ensure democracy and the rule of law in Kosovo. There will be no real democracy and rule of law, if the citizens are not provided the respecting, protection and the implementation of human rights”, he said.
In order to succeed in the protection and promotion of human rights, President Thaçi said that by all means a cooperation of all state-level mechanisms and authorities is needed, be they institutional or from civil society and a cooperation with international mechanisms and authorities.
“Our institutions and citizens can not and should not remain silent in the protection of human rights. It is the responsibility of every institution and every citizen to commit itself to the protection and promotion of human rights, guaranteed by the Constitution and the relevant legislation in force”, said President Thaçi.
“As a society we should not be satisfied to react only in situations when the victims which experience discrimination complain and provide them legal assistance and protection. A fight without any compromise against every act of discrimination is needed”, said President Thaçi, adding that the benefits that diversity brings to all of us should also be appreciated and we need to protect this.
Në këtë konferencë, presidenti Thaçi ka thënë se autoritetet kompetente duhet të vihen në funksionim të plotë dhe të shënohen rezultate domethënëse në drejtim të parandalimit dhe luftimit të çdo akti të diskriminimit.
At this conference, President Thaçi said that the competent authorities must be made fully operational and significant results in relation to the prevention and combating of every act of discrimination must be marked.
