The National Council for the Survivors of Sexual Violence during the War held a workshop on the exchange of experiences between Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo

The National Council for the Survivors of Sexual Violence during the War, which is headed by the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Jahjaga, in cooperation with the Legal Office of the Office of the Prime Minister and UNWOMEN, held a two-day workshop on the exchange of experiences between Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo on sexual violence during the war.

Participants at the workshop, apart from the delegation from Bosnia and Herzegovina from the public and civilian sector, were the members of the National Council for the survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo from governmental and non-governmental organizations of women, as well as representatives of UNWOMEN from Prishtina, Tirana and New York.

At this workshop participants exchanged the best experiences and practices for the rehabilitation, the reintegration and empowerment of the survivors of sexual violence during the war, through various programs and processes of reparations.

Special attention was paid to the discussion on the drafting of the secondary legislation and standard operating procedures for the implementation of the applicable law by sharing experiences on recognizing the status of the survivors of sexual violence during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Of particular significance was considered the need to continue the cooperation and coordination between the state institutions and non-governmental organizations.

With the support of the members of the National Council for the Survivors of Sexual Violence during the war, and in particular by the Office of the President, UNWOMEN and OHCHR, the Legal Office of the Prime Minister’s Office, has started the process of the drafting of the necessary legal acts for the implementation of the Law on the Status and the Rights of Martyrs, Invalids, Veterans, Members of the Kosovo Liberation Army, the Victims of Sexual Violence during the War, Civilian Victims and their Families, with which the status of the victims of sexual violence during the War in Kosovo is legally recognized.
